Thanks for the response about the Prime Rib Room. At $14 a head we will need
7 to burn up the comp.
OK, you made me talk about my one experience at the Prime Rib Room. Please
change the channel now if you don't like fantastic tales of adventure happening
to other gamblers...cause here comes one now!
It was January of 2000. I played "alot" down at the Riverside in the late
1990's. If you put in 500 points ($2.5k coin-in) a trip they gave you two
comped nights weekdays for the next trip. For some reason they gave me a special
mailer for three nights for my January birthday. It probably was the first
time I did three nights in Nevada.
My new lady friend, Helen, and I were taking our first out-of-town adventure.
She used to do Atlantic City and did a couple of same day turn-arounds to
Laughlin just to sit at the GN-L pool. A gambler, no.
We hit the Riverside late afternoon and checked-in. Some of you might
remember how the Riverside did the various weeks running into Mardi-Gras. Each week
had a different theme based on a country. It could have been Ump-pah-pah
German week, I forget.
Back then the Riverside gave drawing tickets out for breathing, eating and
sleeping. They elected a King and Queen each night. I got one pink and one
blue ticket for checking-in...alot of non-gambling tickets handed out in those
days.
Those familiar with the current Riverside will note the area east of the high
limit lounge. This is where they do their machine tourneys on those banks of
short pay slant-top Bally Gamemakers. Well in January 2000 it was still old
banks of upright skinny IGT single game VP in the middle of the floor. Later
in the year the Game Makers showed-up.
Helen really didn't want to personally feed the machines initially. Fine
with me. I played an old fuzzy 9/6 Jacks game. The cocktailer took care of us
both. I hit a royal about an hour into the trip. Oh, yeah! Time for the
drawing, but cocktails were on the way. Helen decided I should go check it out.
I wanted to check it out for future drawings. I do believe it was still quads
got a ticket back then...unlike today's requirements.
I got over to the drawing area, same place as now, probably the same clear
plastic drum as now. Lots of tickets...pink and blue. My one ticket won. I
was King for the Day! I had to sit on the thrown and wait for my Queen. We had
to get pitcures taken. The winners got $500 and a dinner for two to
where...the Prime Rib Room.
Helen was pissed when it took me a half hour to get back to the machine she
was watching. It took a trip up to the Prime Rib room to get her back into the
game of having fun. Tasty food in the Prime Rib room and good cocktail
service in January 2000.
OBTW, hit another royal the next day too in the same bank of clunkers. What
a nice trip.
