9. Re: Consecutive Deal "Anamolies" xvp
Date: Sun Jun 10, 2007 6:09 pm ((PDT))My best dealt hands in Hold'em were getting pocket KK for the first three
hands of a multi table tourney. I didn't know what to do the second and third
hand, asked on several forums and they didn't know how they would act either. My favorite Hold'em hand ever was getting KK as hole cards, another player
raised me preflop. On the flop was KKA, just him and me playing at this point.
He raised me. I called, blankie card on turn. He raised me even more. I
called. Non memorable card again on river. He went all in. I called. He proudly
showed me his AAAKK. I showed my KKKK.

In VP, the most exciting I can report is two royals in about five minutes on a $.50 5-play; I think there have been many reports of immediately consecutive royals here, so not that big a deal.
In Hold'em, my favorite is a small tournament (30 people) where I made the final table with average chips, and in the first round (ten hands) had pocket Aces 3 times, two of which were in a row -- and all three times they held up and got paid off, taking out another player. This gave me half the chips in play, and although I briefly lost the chip lead when down to three players, I then regained it and then took out both opponents at once with my 77 vs QQ vs AK when a 7 came on the flop.
The element of luck in poker can overcome the element of skill in a tournament, as is the case with all short term series of events.
Pocket Aces come once in 221 hands, and one of my opponents observed that it must be 4,000 to one against getting them twice in a row -- I quickly corrected his decimal point; it's actually almost 49,000 to 1! I don't know how to calculate the odds of it happening three times in ten hands (used to know how to do that, but I've lost that skill). It's certainly going to be far less than the next two VP hands being quads followed by a straight flush.
