I am one of the (few?) members of this board that does not keep count of how
many hands I have played. It never was something that I felt I needed to
do. So, my use of the word 'clump' was time-based, rather than over the
course of hands dealt.
However, I think your proposed definition would better fit this Group than
mine would.

Shouldn't htis "clump" definition be for a particularly "high" hand? I've
been "clumped" with garbage repeatedly, but seldom for a "high" paying hand.

Scot

My gut feel is to let the administrator (or someone he chooses)
decide what is a clump. But the list of qualified clumps would only
have 10-20 entries, from best to worst. When a new clump is
submitted, the monitor would decide if (and where) it fits in the
list and, if it does fit, drop the last entry. We have to trust that
posters will submit valid clumps ... no clump scamming allowed.
And we might want to consider clumps as small as 2, say 2 $1
Reversible Royals on the same day. That's a nice $100,000 clump.
Another angle is to make a "10 Best" TV show based on the list.
There are TV shows like this for lots of things these days. Last
night there was a show on the "Most Amazing" surgeries!
My suggestion is to have staninnv monitor this, as payback for
winning the WOF last year!

Two weeks ago, I experienced what was a candidate for the strangest
clump, assuming that I get any credit for the one which wasn't full
coin.
First, intrigued by someone's inquiry about Triple Double Bonus, I
got four aces with a kicker, following relatively quickly by a dealt
royal in spades (which seemed to flicker a bit, almost as if in
celebration of the 40,000th play), using a nickel Triple Double
Bonus machine at the Orleans, in one of a bank of ten.
I had been lured to LV in the aftermath of NASCAR by an offer of a
room for two nights at the Mirage (that a bit weird, too, because
I've been spending most of my time at the Station casinos for a
couple of years).
Anyway, I had stopped at the Orleans before checking in to the
Mirage. Later that night, when there was a short wait at the coffee
shop, I plunked down at a dollar Double Double Bonus machine
(labeled Jacks or Better, in a bank of six sit-down machines), and,
as you might expect a quarter player who only was fishing for a quad
to do, came up with a royal (also in spades) with one dollar in. I
know, I know...everyone tells you not to do that, but look at it
this way: I got more than I was expecting (every $250 helps a
quarter player).
On the next day, I spent a bit of time at Wynn, since I hadn't
picked up my two buffets yet. I persuaded the slots folks to split
my two, since I was in town by myself, and ate lunch and dinner
both. I have to admit that, because I had eaten a balanced lunch,
dinner consisted mainly of crab legs and dessert. ;^)
After supper, I headed over to the Palms, to see whether there was
anything to back up its "best video poker" selection. I was there
into the night, and I wound up at a bank of ten stand-up Double
Double Bonus machines, where I got my only pay-by-hand, music
playing royal, in hearts. Because these VP jackpots don't show up
frequently, I like to see them on the screen for a while (I've been
known to get four aces on a machine and to move to its immediate
neighbor, just to do that). So I was happy to see that the Palms
still pays the $1,000 by hand, with the royal left on the screen and
some people walking by to see what was causing that light to flash.
So...maybe not a clump, just one full-blown royal (the quarter
machine), with the second one full pay but just showing up on the
machine (the nickel machine). And I know some people wouldn't count
the third one, with only one dollar in (the dollar machine). I
consider it a strange clump, though.

That is not a clump - that is blind assed luck! Way to go. Who cares if it was a short coin royal - it was still a royal.
Now, if anyone wants to see a real clump - check out the hair on my back............

Thanks for your support. I'm a newbie in this group, and, despite
having read the FAQ and lurked for a while, I still have a lot to
learn.
Let me pose another question (if I don't get a response, I may post
a separate message on the topic, but that may not be necessary): I
read Bob Dancer's tournament strategy article (#50 in the FAQ), but
I still have some video poker tournament questions.
First, are there locals tournaments and out-of-town tournaments? I
receive free-room postcard offers from Sunset Station with some
regularity, and I also receive VP tournament offers. It just was
explained to me that the VP tournament is a free room PLUS a VP
tournament, so I accepted my first one of those. I suppose I'll
learn a lot just be showing up there, but I'd appreciate it if one
of you folks can clue me in before that.
Second, does Sunset Station use DB machines for its tournaments?
