Comp's MGM Mirage Properties

Last trip, as with most of my 3 trips per year, I had $84,000 coin in
(playing VP) for a 3 night stay. Usually my F&B bill is $300-$400.
Can't seem to get my host, no matter which MGM Mirage property I stay,
to comp. room food and very limited beverage up front (room and
transport is comp'd). They will usually credit my account $100 after
they review my play(?), but that's it. I have heard just about every
excuse immaginable.

With this level of play am I asking too much for them to comp the $300
total? I just don't know! I am a very polite and easy going person with
the casino staff. Just need some thoughts as to how hard I should push
or not push.
Thanks

You bring up issues for whic I too would like to know the answes from
people who know, if they care to inform.

How do you keep track of your coin-in? Is the indirectly by the points
accumulated, as each point refers to certain amount of coin-in?

How do you contact "your host"? (In another post, I admitted that I am
very "uninitiated")

What are some of the interesting ones?

That's it. What is the optimal Strategy, which may vary fom casino to
casino. Does the squeaky wheel get the grease, or a spray of WD-40?

How to get casino comps is a very complex subject - no two casinos do it alike - and the same casino may change its policy frequently. This is why I wrote THREE books - to cover the in's and out's of this very complicated subject. I'd like to answer some of your questions but there is just no "one post" silver bullet here. Any of my books would give a beginner a good foundation in knowing how to get more comps. You can try to learn it yourself from experience - that's how I did it starting 21 years ago. But it took me years to learn the ropes. But I wrote the Frugal books so you wouldn't have to waste so much time (and money) to get the experience all on your own. After you have learned the foundation facts, then this forum is a great place to place your specific questions. We all are still learning - it is a never-ending study.

I don't think pushing is necessary. Simply asking a host to take a look at
the bill at the end of the trip should get you all you've earned.

MGM-Mirage properties cut the comp rate on most video poker by about 2/3
over the last couple years. With $84,000 coin in you aren't even earning
enough to cover your room, so if they give you $100 in food that's generous.

Cogno

I think that you can get more but it depends on where you stay and
how much you lose or win. I would give NYNY and TI a try (based on
your request for MGM properties). Again, if you are a winner it is
much harder to get comps. As for up front RFB, you will probably
have to play more. Always ask for as much as possible, and more if
you lost. It would help if you have a host, but they might not give
you one.

Jean always says to ask, it can't hurt.

Good luck,

1) Sometimes you can get comped off the loss if you've had an unlucky
trip. I generally agree with Cogno's advice here. $84K isn't a big
trip there if you're playing 9-6 Jacks.

2) I really haven't found MGM Mirage properties all that profitable to
play. Sometimes there's a good opportunity, but at some point in time
they get tired of holding .45% against you and have you backed off the
mail. Moreover, if it's something like a high end slot tournament, you
can pretty much forget about it unless your ci is something around
500K/trip.

At TI I have been shown a laminated card by a host which stated you
needed 14,000 pts/day ($42,000 coin in) for RFB in a Tower Suite
(Level II) or 22,000 pts/day ($66,000 coin in) for RFB in a Luxury
Suite (Level III). Both would include VIP check in and Limo
Transport (airport and other)and other perks.
