Comps at Las Vegas Club

Although I'm relatively new to VP, I've been going to casinos in
Las Vegas and Reno since 1967. I've often been comped to meals
after playing a little (or a lot of) blackjack. The comp never, to
the best of my memory, had a dollar amount on it. Recently, though,
I played some VP at the Las Vegas Club and I was told that I had
earned some cash back and some comps. They told me exactly what I
had in my cash back account, but they wouldn't tell me how much I
had in my comp account. I had to tell them how much I wanted and
then they checked to see if I had at least that amount in my comp
account. I don't care so much about the secrecy as I do for the
fact that the dollar amount on my comp comes off of my comp account
even if I don't use the whole thing. Once time I asked for a $30
comp and they gave it to me, and our bill came to about $25.
Another time I asked for an $8 comp, and again they gave it to me,
but the bill came to $10, so I had to pay a little cash along with
the comp. Is this now the normal way of doing business in Las Vegas?
