"Good" can be such a subjective word. What's good for one isn't necessarily good for the
other. Nonetheless my casino host is Julie and she's always done everything she can for me.
But then again she knows my history.

Thanks for the reply.
I took potluck yesterday and spoke with Cathy. She offered "a gold card", a comp'd
weekend room, and comped meals at the buffet and the Paddle Wheel restaurant.
I took her up on it.
Does anyone know if a gold card gets me any other perks such as higher
cashback and/or comp rates?

A Gold Card? Now did she offer you a Gold Slot card or a Gold Dining
card? Or Both? They are different. I have a gold slot card, which is
the second level of a three level system. You are supposed to get
special offers and a special line to check in (it was closed on my
first attempt) with a gold slot card. I think the highest level is
Champagne, and I don't know what that one does for you.
The Gold Dining card will give you free dining for two people at the
Buffet, Coffee shop and snack shop. A meal includes an appetizer, a
main course, beverage and a dessert. The next level of dining card is
the silver card which adds in the Boiler Room and Mark Twains. The
highest level is the white card which adds the Mississippi Lounge and
the Orleans Room (RIP). I have had dining cards since 2003, and it
was (still is?)a nice perk. I kind of thought it was being phased
out, so I would be interested to hear about your experience in
getting a dining card.
Brian- I assume you have no real history with the CB or EW? I am
really curious to what you said to Cathy to get in with such a nice
offer. "I took her up on it." Well, of course or did you have
several places bidding for your gambling business?
Forget about added cashback and comp rates.
Thanks for the reply.

Brian any way you look at it I think you did good. I hope everything works out well for you
down there and you'll have to let us know how it went. I can't make it down there until
April so I'll enjoy living vicariously until that time. On the brighter side I've got a six day
trip in Reno next month during March Madness so hopefully that'll keep me off the streets
for awhile.
Thanks for the reply.

I don't really know - I asked for a room Feb 22-24 (annual golf trip),
and she went away for a few minutes, came back and said my play didn't
warrant it. I then offered a buddy's name (who also didn't qualify).
Her comeback was that, with us sharing a room, she could comp the room
and give us gold cards "which cover meals at two restaurants and the
snack bar".
She then did a check on our marketing offers and said we'd each qualify
for 2 nights on one of those, but would have to pay for the 3rd, and
wouldn't get the free food. I took her first offer.
Brian- I assume you have no real history with the CB or EW? I am
really curious to what you said to Cathy to get in with such a nice

I have some history, but not a lot:
- historical One Club accounts from Circus Circus, Luxor, Mandalay,
which I used occasionally at the Edgewater thru 2006.
- Feb 2007 (last year's golf trip) 8 of us stayed at the Belle for
3 nights. Put a combined $45K on 4 cards. They compd'd my room after a
review the 2nd day, said they'd rate the others, then a host (name of
Mike) double crossed us and charged my credit card for the other rooms.
(Now you know why I asked for a GOOD host this year).
- went down for 1 day in June 2007 to witness the carnage the new
owners were wreaking. I counted over 120 machines removed and/or
gutted. Player tracking system was down. I gave them zero action.
At the time, the word was than the old card would expire, and your
points/ cashback with it. I asked for my cashback, which they couldn't
do (main system also down). I then asked for a check to be mailed (I
live in Canada). They agreed to mail it, but never did.
- was at the Pioneer for a weekend VP tourney in October - gave the
Belle about $5k action over 2 days. As an aside, I hit the last ever RF
in the tiny upstairs bar (the quarter DB prog) on Oct 29, 2 hours
before the techs ripped out the bartops. I then went downstairs and hit
a half-dollar royal at the Shooter Bar 75 minutes later. It's possible
the host liked my play levels, but didn't like my win rate.
- finally, I took my lady to Vegas for New Year's, and managed one day
in Laughlin. We spent most of our time at Aquarius (new member promo,
$100 rebate), but managed an hour or two at the Belle. Maybe #2k
action. She played penny slots on my card, which certainly didn't hurt
my rating.
...did you have several places bidding for your gambling business?
Just about everwhere, but I didn't tell her that. We're already taking
12 room nights at River Palms, and 8 at Main St Station (all comped).
Based on our last 10 year's performance, we'll generate about $130k
coinin over the 8 days plus some table action.
My choices for the final 3 nights in Laughlin were CB/EW, Aquarius,
Trop Express, Pioneer, and Golden Nugget.
I have a history with all of them, but my golfers only with T.E,
Pioneer, and Edgewater. TropExpress has gutted their VP, the Pioneer's
rooms are barely tolerable, and EW/CB burned us last year.
I called Aquarius first, and Naomi in executive services offered TWO
rooms comped for Fri/Sat/Sun on my (single days) play alone, with a
third room at casino rate. Naturally I'll ask for a review of the new
member's play before checkout, and expect to get the 3rd room comped as
well.
If any of you locals want to join us for a beer, you'll find us at the
Aquarius after golf (5-8pm?? nightly) Feb 22/23/24. We'll be playing at
the bank of (10) good quarter slant-tops. Look for the 8 rowdies
sucking down Coronas and making lots of noise. If not there we'll be
at the CB in the River Bar doing the same thing.
Feb 25/26 we'll be doing the same at the Winner's Wharf area of RP.
Feb 27 we're playing the regular weekly VP tourney at Avi after golfing
there.
Terry, are you reading this? We never did connect last year.

That really sounds like the Gold Dining card to me. Good job with the
negotiations, but you got to bunk up with a buddy. The buffet sure has
limited hours and meals now. They are closed Mondays and Tuesdays, and
no longer are open for breakfast.
I was there also for the June 1st takeover. I stayed up till about 2:30
AM watching the activities. I stayed an additional night and found the
there was no room cleaning staff at all. A lot of machines were shut
down/ticket cashout machines were shut down etc. It was interesting.
Your group sounds like you know how to have a good time. Anyone
bringing bail money just in case?

The top tier slot card is "Crystal". The best thing about
the Crystal card is going right to the front of all lines.
This is especially valuable at the "Access Club" where
the lines can get ridiculous. The other benefits are offers
for most promotions at both casinos and usually for up
to 5 comped nights. The rooms are usually a suite, or at
least an upgraded room on the main boat if you are
staying at the Belle.
The main difference that I now see is that most offers
are for either the Edgewater or the Belle. Before Marnell,
I was always tied to the Belle based upon previous play.
I once asked for similar treatment at the Edgewater and
was told by a host that I would have to earn my status
there first. Same owner, but competitors. The rational
was the possibility the casinos could have been sold to
two new owner. That did not happen so it seems the
two casinos have a much closer relationship since the
Marnell's took over both.
They expressed to me the intentions of removing the
food cards once 'food card eligible" players had enough
time to earn significant comps. It appears the significant
lowering on the comp levels came before this was possible.
Now I expect the cards will remain. However, I still find
it very difficult to rationalize playing close to my previous
level. The "White" food card had tremendous value when
the pay schedules were attractive and before closing the
Orleans Room. I now view the food cards as potentially
a very expensive benefit if one is required to play poor
video poker machines. True, there are a few good quarter
games, but the amount of time required at $1.25 a hand
for a "white food card" is unrealistic. At least it will be
once they realize that I refuse to put in the amount of
time necessary at the $.25 level, or to play inferior pay
schedules at all other denominations.

Crystal not Champagne, thanks Bob. Does anyone know what is required
to move up the chain of card levels? The last time I was in town that
information was not available. Like you, my offers are for either
place, but it is strange that they still require different cards for
the CB and EW. My card is just for the Belle. I am glad to hear that
they still are using the meal card system. However, it is not as it
was in days of old. With the Orleans Room gone, you don't get as much
bang for the buck. With reduced VP offerings you got to wonder about
the value vs. coin in requirements. However, there are some decent
plays above the quarter level. 8/5 BP is available up to the $2
level, so it is possible to rack up "coin in" faster.
The casino industry is always changing, and we have to learn to
change with it. I think I am becoming adept on learning how to adapt.

Crystal is just what they traded my card in for. I did not ask
the question since I knew it was the highest level. I do not
remember specific guidelines at the old One Club for the the food
card requirements, but maybe there were specific requirements for
card levels.
I have trouble with 8/5 Bonus for my gambling dollars when 9/6
JoB is available at all other Laughlin locations for $1 or less.
Also with the food card value being reduced with the Orlean's
elimination. Also I usually need to save that level of gamble
for the Vegas Strip!
