Yes I was surprised to be placed on his team. I was on his team the
first day of my first CB tournament. They change teams for the
second day of the tournaments. Most players are veterans of many
tournaments. I bet that I was the only newcomer at this event. He
too seem a little surprised that I was playing with him. It was my
first visit and many old timers have yet to be in his group. If he
has any common sense I bet, after my contribution, it will not happen
again! His new team did win some money on the second day.

What was the format? Some sort of scramble where you play the best shot?

I got to caddie as my first job. I got paid $3.75 for a loop, plus a hot dog
and a 10 oz. soda at the turn as a tip for 5 hours of hauling a bag in 1971.
Those guys were dicks, except for the Cathloc Priests who said thanks.
Anyone else also caddie at Butterfield?

**************************************
See

Yes, a scramble format. The Belle and Edgewater take their golf
tournaments serious. The teams are made of a A,B,C & D player. You
must have a verifiable USGA handicap. You are required to use 3
drives from the A & B player, 2 drives if the C player and any 2 non
putts of the D player. There is pari-mutual betting by players on
the teams and a couple of team closest to the pins, a hole in one
opportunity, longest drive and a longest putt hole.

I enjoy scrambles sense you support for each other. Curtis was my A
player the first day. I think he had some sort of "souped up" cart.
He also had this short hand-held net and would run around picking up
the other 3 balls without needing to get out of his cart. I guess
you could say Curtis Jacks was "my caddy" that day!

Now Harrah's runs their tournament much less formal. Winning is
totally based upon luck. You play your own ball. You can take no
less than a double (you can play out the hole if you want). Teams
are selected after all scores are ranked and divided into 4 groups.
Then an A B C & D player is drawn for 4 man teams. It is total luck
that determines which other players (scores) are on your team. They
add up the team scores and the lowest team total wins. I like this
format since there is no "fudging". Obviously no pari-mutual betting
with this format.

In the next Harrah's tournament, the winning team will split $6,000.
I like to play golf, meet other players and usually have a nice or
sometimes really good banquet meal. Really, some meals have been
very good. I also figure it is my best chance to ever win one of
Harrah's drawings. Think of it, they draw 16 names for 1st 2nd 3rd
and 4th place teams. Four of the draws are from the group of scores
containing your name (around 32 names in your group, or a 1 in 8
chance to be drawn for some money! They also often draw a few random
cash winners. There usually around 144 players. 1st pays $1,500,
2nd 1,000, 3rd 500 and 4th place pays $250 per person. I am zero for
two so far, but I like these odds better than most of their frequent
drawings!

The only negative so far with Laughlin golf has been the weather and
that I also live 205 miles away. With weather, I mean winds With
winds, I mean some "really strong winds" in about half of the rounds
that I have played in Laughlin.
