Coin-in requirement questions...

I see in the VPFree database lots of figures for discretionary room
comps, once you're staying at a property. But, since I'm traveling
with a first-timer and we're staying on the Strip, I'd like to try
and get established at a few places, getting mailers for free rooms
in the process. So I'm wondering about some of the different coin-in
requirements for free room mailers. If people out there have it, I'd
appreciate info on the following: (If I have some idea, I've included
it, and maybe someone can confirm it)

Downtown: MSS/Cal/Fremont (Cal and Fremont about $1-2K? Are these
three under the same requirements now?), Fitz (?), Plaza ($2K)

Boulder: Az Charlie's (?), Sam's (?), Boulder Sta (?)

Strip: LVHilton (do I need 4 trips to get a mailer?)

Thanks in advance,

Dave

Dave,

I'm replying to your post specifically in respect to your question
about what it takes to get established at LV Hilton.

I strongly discourage you, or anyone else, from stopping in at the
Hilton and giving them a little play in order to start mailers from
them. You'll be recording a trip that will affect your offers for
several visits to come (and potentially affect some benefits for up to
36 months).

The best bet for an initial visit at LV Hilton is to call and speak to
a host, stating that you'd like to come in on a casino rate. They'll
offer a relatively attractive nightly rate that, provided you give
them a minimum of about $4K of vp play per night, you should have no
difficulty getting them to comp at the end of your trip (and possibly
a portion of your food and beverage that wasn't covered by comps
earned at the kiosk).

Do not take advantage of the frequent packages that are offered up by
hotel marketing (vs. casino marketing). These typically include room,
food and beverage credit, slot coin and/or chip voucher, show tickets,
etc. Getting the charge for the package comped after the fact by
casino marketing can be like pulling teeth -- we're talking two
separate sides of the house - on occasion it may be that it can't be
comped at all.

This brings up another newbie question. Are the figures in the
database (and above) total amounts or per day amounts? For example
if we play one day at MSS and put $2K through will we get comp room
offers? Or is it an average of $2K over a three day (or some specific
time frame) period? Meaning one day of 2K through would only be
worth $0.66K.

The DataBase usually lists a coin-in per day figure. If there isn't any
qualifier, as in the MSS example, then it refers to total coin-in.

In my experience, the LVH is one of those places where a little light
play generates bupkus in terms of offers. OTOH, the way I began to
generate offers was to stop in once or twice while staying at another
property in town and giving them some moderately serious session play
ranging from 5 to 20K or so. It didn't take long to start receiving
sacks full of good offers and a later stay at LVH was comped up front
(room only) with a brief call to a host.
