Dave,
I'm replying to your post specifically in respect to your question
about what it takes to get established at LV Hilton.
I strongly discourage you, or anyone else, from stopping in at the
Hilton and giving them a little play in order to start mailers from
them. You'll be recording a trip that will affect your offers for
several visits to come (and potentially affect some benefits for up to
36 months).
The best bet for an initial visit at LV Hilton is to call and speak to
a host, stating that you'd like to come in on a casino rate. They'll
offer a relatively attractive nightly rate that, provided you give
them a minimum of about $4K of vp play per night, you should have no
difficulty getting them to comp at the end of your trip (and possibly
a portion of your food and beverage that wasn't covered by comps
earned at the kiosk).
Do not take advantage of the frequent packages that are offered up by
hotel marketing (vs. casino marketing). These typically include room,
food and beverage credit, slot coin and/or chip voucher, show tickets,
etc. Getting the charge for the package comped after the fact by
casino marketing can be like pulling teeth -- we're talking two
separate sides of the house - on occasion it may be that it can't be
comped at all.

But, since I'm traveling with a first-timer and we're staying on the
Strip, I'd like to try and get established at a few places, getting
mailers for free rooms in the process. So I'm wondering about some
of the different coin-in requirements for free room mailers.
Strip: LVHilton (do I need 4 trips to get a mailer?)
