Hi Sharon:
CoachVee and Hedy are alive and well!!
Actually, we are at Harrah's in AC as I write this for a four-night New Year's stay. And, on Jan.3 we fly to Vegas for an 11-night trip.
You're right, I haven't been posting to VPFree recently, sticking mostly with the AC group but I will post a TR to both after New Year's. This one will feature Hedy's drought-busting royal at Harrah's yesterday which ended a year-long schneid.
Regards,
CoachVee & Hedy
···
Just wondering why I have not seen any trip reports from Coach Vee. I
enjoyed them and always looked forward to reading them. Does anyone
know if he posts them to a different group. Hey Coach if you are out
there I sure would like to see your TRs again.

MGM lowers rates for NYE
Posted by: "krallison416@aol.com" krallison416@aol.com ? krallison1
Fri Dec?28,?2007 9:57?am (PST)
The Travelzoo Newsdesk has found this outstanding offer
from MGM Grand:
LAS VEGAS--DECEMBER 28, 2007-- The upscale MGM Grand
resort just slashed rates by more than 50% for this
weekend including New Year's Eve.
Most hotels are completely sold out in this prime Strip
location, but tonight and Saturday are only $99 while
Sunday is $189. On Monday (New Year's Eve), rooms that
were over $500 a night last week, are now just $229.
In addition to these great rates, they are including:
- $25 activity credit
- Upgrades to suites at $25 (based on availability)
- Roundtrip shuttle from/to airport for two
We expect these rooms to sell out quickly at these prices.
If you can't make it this weekend, they are also offering
many dates through the end of February for $79-$99 per
night - including next weekend.
For full details on this offer and to book directly
through MGM Grand, click here:

re Gold Coast mailers -- and Jan. points days
Posted by: "misscraps@aol.com" misscraps@aol.com ? misscraps
Fri Dec?28,?2007 12:18?pm (PST)
We just received the January mailers, and I was pleased that despite being
told we needed $42,000 coin in, it seems more likely the amount was 42000
points, since I had around $10,000 coin in. The mailer I received was or 3 $20
off food coupons, 4 $30 free slot play days, plus a "cash crab" day (at least
$10), a mystery instant credit day, plus free blanket, free radio, and free
show tickets.
So this actually was a better mailer than previously. Unfortunately we
still haven't been able to get a straight answer from the club booth people as to
how much coin in we need for Dec. to get a similar mailer, but I'll now
quickly play about $10,000 through and hope for the best based on this mailer.
Meanwhile my husband only had extremely minimal play and goet 2 $5 instant
credit plus a cash crab ($5 minimum) on limited days. This is probably the
lowest mailer.
Jan. will feature Club Coast (presumably all Coasts) "deals on meals" - 75%
off buffet, and 50% off other restaurants when you pay with points. Also
Jan. 1 is 8X point day. Jan. 19 and 20 7X points. Most other days are 3X
points.
Also something is listed as a "card of the day" - hit 4 of a kind on
designated "card of day" and get $100 coin bonus.
------------------------
Does anyone know what the situation is regarding Orleans mailers?

LVHilton VP tourney upcoming - question
Posted by: "killbondnow" killbondnow@yahoo.com ? killbondnow
Fri Dec?28,?2007 12:57?pm (PST)
I was looking at the 25K Ring in the New Year VP Tournament info, and
it doesn't seem too great -- they want a minimum of 312 people, at $199
per entry, but it looks like they're only giving back about half the
tournament fees even if they have minimum participation. This doesn't
seem to be the case for their slot tournaments, there's much closer
parity between fees in/prizes out. Also the VP tourney has no award
dinner, etc., just room and tournament. Has anyone played a VP tourney
there, and do they basically treate VP players like this as a general
rule? I wanted to try out an inexpensive tourney to see what it's
like, but sheesh, this doesn't seem all that great. Thanks for any
input.

aren't handy at the moment, but as best I can recall mine were
mainly 140, with
a couple of 180s and a 250.
What hasn't been mentioned in this thread is that the quarter game
features
a progressive jackpot. I didn't get a chance to clock the meter,
but as best I can recall
the royal was around $1,800 when it was hit.
Brian
Just seeing an $1800 royal on a bank is evidence that the game may have
a strong meter. Someone has to time it to be sure, but meters that run
at .25% or .333% just never get that high. I mean, it's extremely
rare. Even with a .5% meter the royal would have to miss about 130,000
games to get that high. There may be a 1% meter on that bank.
Winpoker Game Analysis shows 8/5 Jacks, 4000 coin royal, 140 quad, as a
98% game. So the base game has to be somewhere above 98%.
$1500 royal, with 140 quad puts the game at 99%.
$1500 royal with a 160 quad puts the game at 100%.
$1600 royal with a 155 quad puts the game at 100%.
$1700 royal with a 150 quad puts the game at 100%.
$1800 royal with a 145 quad puts the game at %100%.
$1900 is a no brainer play.
Plus, you have the meter movement while playing.
There's no way anyone is going to play enough to get a ballpark average
on the 1199 hit. So I think the best way to handle it is to ignore it
in analyzing the progressive game.
The 250 and 500 hits will also take one hell of alot of quads to get
any kind of picture of what the odds may be.
The ratio of 140 hits to 180 hits is the easiest to stat since they
occur the most. And it's the most telling stat.
With a 3 to 2 ratio you would know you have a quad average at 156+
2 to 1 is 153+
7 to 3 152+
3 to 1 150+
4 to 1 148+
The plus sign signifies the mystery of the 250-500 hits.
Another thing that can be done is lump the 250-500 hits in with the 180
hits and consider them all to be 180 hits for purposes of looking at
the ratio. That would be 140 hits versus hits of 180 or higher.
If you play for quarters and you are at Main Street you might want to
keep an eye on that progressive meter.

Dick, you are right. Those treasure chests (.25) are right in the
same area I was talking about. never could pull the 4x for the
treasure chest (up to a $1199 win, i think). i think on my last
trip, or maybe the one before, i saw a guy hit on the end machine to
the right, closest to the rest rooms 9when thats where they were,
for the $1199.00. Such luck!!

If you play 99% of the hands correctly in 10-7 DB your total expected return is much greater than 99.1%. It is highly unlikely that your mistakes have an average cost of five credits. Many 10-7 DB plays are very close (Second best play within $0.02 for the $1 player.) so if you play 99% of the hands correct you probably are playing between 100.16% and 100.17% expected return. (perfect is 100.1725%)

11a. math question
Date: Tue Dec 25, 2007 10:08 am ((PST))Merry Christmas All,
If I am playing FP DDB (100.1% ) and playing perfectly, I can expect a .1%
positive return over the long long term, right? If say I am playing at 99%
accuracy, is that 1% subtracted from the 100.1% in terms of expected long long
term returns thereby giving me an expected return of 99.1%. I don't even know
if that question makes sense. It does in my head but I don't know if I asked it
correctly. I really like the feature on Bob Dance's software that tells me my
accuracy but I'll be darned if I have been able to score perfect 100% play over
1000+ hands. Thanks.
As you seem to recognize, the question is not easy to answer. If you're making an error every 100 hands, the effect of that on your return will depend on WHAT the error is -- if it's choosing a hand with a 1.003 EV instead of the one with the 1.004 EV, that's one thing; if it's choosing a hand with a 1.003 EV instead of the one with the 2.5 EV, that's another (no particular hands in mind when I say this, but just a general point).
So not considering a penalty card correctly may not be too serious. Forgetting to hold quads before you hit "draw" is probably pretty expensive, even if you only do it half the time that you get dealt a quad, and even if that's the only mistake you make, causing your error rate to be far less than 1%.
To be more serious, the mistakes I CATCH myself making that I worry about are when I'm tired and either miss a pair and hold the two high cards instead, or miss a second pair -- when I make a mistake like that, it's time to quit and get some rest!!!
Before I continue to make EXPENSIVE mistakes like that more than once per hundred hands -- and of course, we are only talking about the mistakes we CATCH ourselves making - while computer practice can tell you how perfectly you play ON THE COMPUTER, only someone watching every hand and knowing every correct play can tell you how many mistakes you make in the casino setting in "real life", which I believe has more opportunities for mistakes than practice environments.
I DO believe that lots of practice improves your ability to perform perfectly -- if the practice is perfect (the old saying is NOT "practice makes perfect", but "perfect practice makes perfect"). I also believe that mistakes that you make systematically (you make them every time you are faced with a given decision) take a LOT of correct plays before you beat them out of your head -- it's a lot of work to un-learn a bad play you once thought was right, to the point where the correct play becomes the "automatic" one.
Fortunately for me, I NEVER played either VP or blackjack by "instinct", but instead book-learned and practiced correct basic strategy for each before ever playing "for real" - so that I don't have many wrong plays to un-learn, only close decisions to learn to refine to be better, eg, penalty cards in VP, and changing from basic strategy based on the count in blackjack.

to the Pier/Waterfront shops -- not a bad "new player" incentive.(This offer will be in the form of mailed coupons redeemable anytime
during the first quarter at any AC Harrah's property -- we may not
have the mailer in hand for this weekend.) She also now has room
offers for AC in her account.I imagine similar offers would have been extended had she booked by
phone -- either way, this really sweetens the deal.- Harry
Wow that is a good deal! We went there for the first time last Sept and
booked online (had 3 nights coming up comped for all the AC properties
and they extended us a 4th night by calling) but had NONE of those $100
offers. Did she do anything special to get them or they just sent her
an email?
We got much better bounce-back cash offers there than we ever do here
(LV or Laughlin)but being on the other side othe country we were not
able to use them :o(
have a great time over NY's!

After a number of years of AC inactivity, she booked an AC room online
(no offer in place). Just two days later the $100 offers showed up
online - the first AC offers that have appeared. A mailer with the
coupons should follow.
We reactivated her card this year with NV play. We'll play her card
the first time in AC this year this weekend to earn Diamond for next
year (800 tier RC to go).
It may be that the $100x3 offer was unrelated to her booking - just
coincidentally timed. two_card reports a similar offer just received
for S. IL, where he/she has been inactive.

There are six machines right in front of Terra Verde, you couldn't have
missed them. They are the first bank you hit when you walk into the
casino. Just like the Optimums, they have DB, DDB and LDW for $.25,
$.50 and $1.00, as well as FPDW for $.25. I believe they are labeled
Players' Select or something similar.

A while ago someone posted about some machines near the restaurant,
Terra Verde, at Green Valley Ranch. Supposedly, they were full pay,
like the "Optimum Play" machines in other locations in the casino.
Today, I scouted that area near Terra Verde and could not locate
anything that was full pay. Would the poster please clarify the
pay-tables and location and names of the machines? Thank you. Katy
Thank you for your reply. I was able to find the machines today. The side nearest the casino entrance is labeled Game King and the other side of the bank is labeled Poker Select. Katy

When you enter the doors to GVR by Terra Verde, there are 3 columns of
machines. The new bank of full pay machines are in the center column.
The 3 machines you see as you come in are labeled "Game King," and
the 3 on the other side of those are labeled "Player's Select." There
is a sign on top of all 3 machines on both sides welcoming Rock (the
winner of that chef contest) to GVR.

I walked through the Tropicana in Las Vegas early in December.
The FPDW by the promotion area is MIA. The one along the wall
(and all the other vp's there) were out of service.

Silverton has the games you like, a 0.20 % earned comp rate,
and you should be able to get some good marketing offers after
you're established there. I would talk to a host before going and
see what they'll do for you.
