Closest Casino To Richmond VA??? Help Please?

Hi Thanks in advance,

Going to Richmond, Va for 3 weeks - I want to take a few side trips to Casinos - with VP - (I have run into a few casinos while traveling with NO VP?)
I appreciate any help or advice on this,

- ablondeladyrocker

Bad news! No casinos in Virginia. The closest you'll probably find full-pay video poker will be Atlantic City, about a 6 hour drive each way. There are casinos in Delaware, the closest to Richmond being probably about 3.5 hours away. But the paytables are, for the most part, bad. There are three casinos, but I only have experience with Dover Downs and Harrington, both which "feature" 6/5 Jacks, or 7/5 Jacks on the multi-line games. I believe someone here mentioned that Delaware Park had playable VP, but only at the $5 and up level.

Or, you could drive down to Suffolk, about an hour away -- we've got some slots and two VP machines at work, though they're just for show and for sale, not playable (well, you can play them, but cashout is disabled -- enabling would be a felony in VA). We've got 8/5 Jacks and 7/5 Bonus, though... so I guess we can claim we've got the best video poker paytables for 300 miles!

Harrahs Cherokee in Cherokee NC - Total Travel Estimates: 7 hours 6 minutes / 422.48 miles plenty of VP, but not so good paytables Class III machines like Vegas

I'll add Charles Town, WV to the mix. It is probably a 2.5 to 3 hour drive from Richmond. They have VP but I don't recall the pay tables. The slots are pretty good at this casino and it's a nice drive out there especially in the Fall.

At Charles Town, WV, I doubt you will find any VP with a return greater than 99% and most likely significantly lower.

Just a warning about Harrah's Cherokee. This is the worst casino that I have ever been to. I am shocked that Harrah's is associated with it.

First, no alchohol is sold on the property. Without alchohol sales, there are no bars and without bars there is no music. You can have dinner at the steakhouse, but may not have a glass of red wine. The place is relatively quiet. There is no excitement like there is in most casinos.

The video poker games that are offered have horrible pay tables. That is not always a problem, since, atleast one half of the machines are out of order at any point in time.

I would suggest making the trip to Atlantic City.

The Cherokee Reservation is dry and that is how the Tribe wants it. Drive to Silva or Maggie Valley to get some alcohol or try some locations that sell it by mason jar.

Harrah's Cherokee will have alcoholic beverages after the first of the year. Details are not yet available.

I would check out the three casinos in Delaware. I have been to Delaware Park (223 miles from Richmond). Dover Downs is only 200 miles. No table games but Delaware Park does have horse racing too AND alcohol. For more info go to: http://www.worldcasinodirectory.com/delaware
Harrah's has a casino in Chester, PA which is only 237 miles from Richmond.
I have been to Cherokee and even if it was next door and had alcohol, I would not recommend it unless you feel you need to personally repay Native Americans for what we have done to them.
