Claude Shannon (XVP), was Jean Scott's blog...

Thanks, NOTI, for the URL. Shannon was an amazing and fascinating guy,
talented across many diverse fields of science and mathematics.

I love his "ultimate machine!" A featureless box with a single switch on
the side, when the switch was flipped, a mechanical hand emerged from the
box, flipped off the switch, and retreated back into the box, which then
closed. Very cool! Sorry to bother you, Thing!

There are fascinating discussions relating to Shannon's work in a book titled Fortune's Formula by William Poundstone. Book also deals with the Kelly Criteria, Thorpe, gambling strategies, hedge funds, etc. and should be of interest to mathematically inclined VP players. Book is non technical and not a hard read.
