From the Fantini Morning Report:
LAWSUIT AIMS TO STOP CLASS II PROCESS
It may take forever for the federal government to issue new
definitions of Class II slot machines.
According to Indian Country Today, two California tribes have filed
to stop the process by which the National Indian Gaming Commission
changes Class II rules.
They are suing over the process, saying it is not as open as should
be required. However, the real complaint may be that they do not like
what some say are restrictive definitions that would lock Class II
machines into inferior player appeal.
Some tribes have accused the NIGC of being a tool of a Bush
administration that is kowtowing to anti-gamers who do not want to see
Indian casinos become more popular with gamblers.
If the proposed definitions pass, some machines now considered Class
II would become Class III under new definitions, meaning that tribes
could not offer them without a compact with the surrounding state
government.
