Hi. There is a popular bank of V.P.progressive nickel machines at Sam's Town. They are five coin machines. You can choose one of four short-pay games to play for the progressive. The games are: 6-5 BP, 9-6 DBP, 6-5 DDBP, and 15-10-4 DW. The progressive sometimes reaches $350 t0 $400and resets around $200.. So, I have three questions. How high does the progressive have to be to turn these games positive? Using regular strategy which of the four games would be the best one to play to win the progressive? and Is any one game significantly better to use than the others? Thanks Dick McK.

The best choice is Double Bonus, assuming the payscale is 9-6-5.
Base game is 97.8%. Royal goes positive at $400.00. 6/5 bonus
poker is just a 96.9% game and you would need a $475.00 royal. I'm
guessing the Deuce game is a 15-10-4-3-2-2-1 game and is not worth
figuring. An important consideration is meter speed. This would
tell me if the bank is worth monitoring. For instance, 8/5 jacks
with a 1% meter hardly ever develops a play. The royal has to miss
to many hands to get there. A 2% meter develops alot of plays. If
this bank has a 1% meter you will probably get a play every once in
a while.
