Chicago Hot Dogs (was Majestic Star & XVP - Chicago Dining)

Oh. My. God.

I had never had a Chicago hot dog before I discovered the Dog House Cafe on
Tropicana. The first time I had one it was a religious experience.

I also like Chicago Hot Dog on Rancho.

Not quite sure I understand why Chicago dogs are so prevalent in Vegas and
I'd never so much as seen one prior to moving from the east coast.

Vegas Chicago-style hot dogs are not bad, but the dawgs in Chicago are far superior, except at the White Sox stadium. I think that I and many people like them is because of all the "fixins" that they put on them. Most hotdogs sold around the U.S. just have the standard catsup, mustard, onions, and on occasion relish/kraut. Chicago dawgs, at a minimum, have mustard, pickle, tomato, cucumber (wierd but adds a good flavor). Also, it may have to do with the meat in the dawg as I detected some spices which are not in normal hot dogs.

Hi Bob,

It is definitely not a Chicago Hot Dog if it doesn't also have
bright green relish and celery salt! The cuccumber is a must. And,
NO catsup! A Chicago dog would rather be fed to your puppy, than be
covered in catsup. Accept no substitutes!

They taste so good because they are usually all beef Kosher hot dogs
served on exactly the right steamed bun. I've eaten 100's of them,
and could devour one right now. YUM!

Whooooooooops!!! I bow to the Chicago expert. Don't recall the green relish. My buddy (who used to live in Jolliet), who also attended the conference, took me to a place in South Chicago for lunch that also loaded the dawg with cheese and chili. It was so loaded that I had to eat it with a knife and fork.

I am in serious discussions with my wife about stopping over in Chicago rather than Indiana ( a small town with a restaurant that serve a 1 lb pork chop) on our trip west next spring.. I want to see more of the Pier and the museums.

Bob who loves food before gasp... VP
