Chicago area

As has been reported previously Harrah`s Joliet casino in Illinois
video poker has been Harrahized.
Last Friday Chicago Suntimes gaming column

Basicly says supply and demand. They don`t have to have better
video
poker as they have the customer supply. Which is true. When I used
to
go there they were packed night and day.

Last Wednesday I went to the MS. 294 S tollway is incredible.
There
is about 25 miles of road under construction and thousands of
trucks.
Quite unpleasant. I could not find the $ SDB reported at Don and
Mike`s bar. Did stay a few hours and left about even. What really
was suprising was how empty MS was. It was still quite empty when I
left 4 hours later about 6pm.

Drove over to the Horseshoe to meet a friend for dinner. The view
of
the lake at the Steakhouse is incredible. Ceiling to floor windows.
I just don`t understand the other casinos not utilizing the lake.
KoKo`s restaurant at MS is like a hole in the wall. No windows. At
least
their Star Lounge has a window looking over the lake.

The Horseshoe was packed. And I think it is a very unattractive
river boat. But it is the closest casino to Chicago by 10 minutes.

I will be in Michigan City Memorial day weekend and will stop at the
new Blue Chip to see if the video poker promises are in place.

A good post that illustrates some of the problems with Chicago area
vp. Lack of choice, expense and time of commuting, poor gaming
environment, poor food choices. That's all in addition to lingering
doubts as to whether the games at these casinos are all on the level,
assuming one can find one worth playing. I've completely given up on
Chicago area vp and play exclusively in Nevada now. The advantages of
playing in Vegas are enormous. You can pick and choose the positive
games that you like. Games that aren't even offered in the midwest
like FP Deuces and KB Joker Wild. It's true that Nevada vp is not as
good as it used to be, but I wholeheartedly agree with Bob Dancer that
plenty of opportunities still abound. I stick to the aforementioned
games and have been a significant net winner on 4 out of my last 5
trips. That includes the minimal transportation cost of $220 which
gets me from my house to the hotel. When you factor in comps and cash
back on top of 100%+ games it's a really sweet deal. And the comps are
actually worth something because the food in most places is quite
good. Oh, did I mention the room comps? Some casinos even reward
loyalty by giving free entry and rooms for their vp tournaments
(Hilton routinely does this). All in all opting for Vegas instead of
local vp has become a no-brainer for me. Local casinos are not going
to clean up their act until they are compelled to do so by people
voting with their feet.
