I forget the details of this strong promo that ran a few years back. Didn't

do with dining upstairs?

MY favorite check cashing promos were down in Laughlin at the Colorado Belle.
I would get travelers checks just to do this one. Cash a check at the cage
and you got a drawing ticket for the current promo, a coupon for a frosty
Boiler Room pint of homebrew and a scratcher card. The scratcher was one of those
pick five squares out of 25 for about a one in 53,000 chance of winning at
least $1000.

But the value in the scratchers was in the second chance drawing. Put your
name on the back and drop it in the drum. Every Monday they would pull 20
unique names for 2 x$25 comp slips good in the gift shop or restaurants. They
even sent you a letter and you had to claim and use in 90 days. One "Dud"
scratcher gave you about a 10% chance of cashing.

Alot of folks would scratch and discard on nearby machines or trashbins. The
one single deck $1 BJ table (6/5) would also give scratchers for suited BJs.
Always had to look around for duds over there too. This promo died around
the time MGM/Mirage first bought the joint.

My strongest payroll/government check promo was at the Pioneer. In the Fall
of 2001 they would give you a time-stamped (48 hour) coupon once a week. Any
VP quad could be doubled up to $200. I had a one shot deal.

I could play quarter 10/7 DB, 9/6 Jacks up to $1 or 7/5 Bonus with a 3-Way
progressive. There also, and still are 8-coin 9/6 Jacks in dollars with 3-way
progressives that reset like 5 coin paytables in the bartops.

I chose the $1 Bonus play, which had the best ER/EV with the coupon. Heck,
just one quad and I will run, even if it was a common 125 coin hit. Well 1500
hands and $600 later I quit trying to hit a quad. It was one of my first
lessons in bankroll requirements. The rest of the trip revolved around collecting
cashback at various casinos and doing very low roller playing.

Anyway, I don't even know if you can cash a check and get a free beer anymore
in Laughlin.
