I am wondering if there would be any $ benefit to the casino if a non-smoking
ban/law were enacted. Would health care/insurance costs go down? What
about cleaning and air filtration--would those costs be lower? (We know that
casinos spend millions putting in these systems and maintaining them)
Again, variables that could affect the bottom line--but would it off-set a whale
dropping a huge amount of cash in a weekend? I don't know--I'm not a bean counter. . .
I have to admit--that one thing that I have noticed is that activity in the
Diamond Lounges seems to remain at the same levels as it was before
NV enacted the law that food and smoking were a no-no and hence the
Diamond Lounges are now NON-smoking. I again know that this isn't a
accurate comparison because one can leave the DL, have a cig and return--
as I have seen some do. But many like to enjoy a smoke right after eating
or with a cocktail--these facts don't seem to have affected attendance in reference
to my visual surveying while we were there for 10 days this month and visited
several lounges. Next time I enter a Diamond Lounge I'm going to ask if this
law has affected attendance levels--if they noticed any change etc.
This is really a tough issue. . . and since emotions often come into play here it
seems that if a person's mind is made up one way or the other--no matter what
persuasive rhetoric is put out there--it won't influence those folks to jump to the
other side of the fence -- so to speak. I'm just looking for factors that could/would
be an influence if things were to change.

You have brains in your head. You have feet in your shoes.
You can steer yourself any direction you choose.
You're on your own. And you know what you know.
And YOU are the one who'll decide where to go.... Dr. Seuss
Helena, Montana instituted a smoking ban that included
bars/casinos.
···
These are small casinos. Up to 20 machines. You have to have a
liquor license to obtain a gaming license so the machines are either
in the bar or a room adjacent to the bar. There are about 20 of
these casinos in Helena. The smoking ban lasted six months. During that time these
bar/casinos experienced a $5,000,000 shortfall in revenue. The
smoking ban was found unconstitutional for, of all reasons, the law
didn't provide for a jury trial for anyone accused of breaking it.When the ban lifted revenue returned to pre-ban levels. That's hard
evidence.
