Sorry, but I beg to differ with you. Revenue was doing fine in ALL
preceeding months prior to the smoking ban, then when it starts,
revenue
goes down. I do think there is a stronger correllation to
decrease in
revenue and smoking ban!!
I did not deny that there was a CORRELATION. What I SAID was that
there was no CAUSATION implied by that correlation. Let me explain:
A. In 1988, 2000, and 2004, we elected a Republican president.
B. In 1989, 2001, and 2005, the tangerine harvest hit record lows.
There is definitely a correlation between A and B.
There is no causal link (no causation) between A and B.
For any events A and B, the fact that A happens, then B happens,
does NOT imply that A CAUSED B.
Therefore, to use the example of casino smoking bans and revenue,
the fact that revenues dropped after the smoking ban does NOT mean
that the smoking ban caused the drop in revenue.
I hope this clears up your confusion.
