BD machines were turned off and roped off. Maybe it was just
maintenance?
You got your post out there before I could compose an
explanation. The reason for this is listed below.
The games I teach in my classes at Silverton are found on Bob
Dancer Approved machines near the aquarium --- except for the Multi
Strike games which are found on standalone machines elsewhere.
There have been complaints about the machines, specifically:
1. It took $2 to earn 1 point rather than the
fairly standard $1 to earn a point on tighter machines.
2. The speed was fixed to a slow speed.
3. ABC credit (which means free play) wasn't
accepted on these machines.
4. The machines weren't eligible for multiple point
days or other promotions.
5. The machines were "too high" relative to the
size of the stools in front of them.
I've been trying to get these things fixed for some time, and
finally I was able to get Silverton management to make changes on most
of these issues. Specifically, within the past few days, changes have
been made so that:
1. It still takes $2 to earn 1 point. There are
other relatively-loose machines in the casino at this rate as well, and
most players are used to this at Station, Fiesta, and Sam's Town.
Players aren't thrilled with this, to be sure, but it's better than
having the games totally removed, a la Coast casinos.
2. The speed is now variable at the player's
option.
3. ABC credit is now accepted on these machines.
4. The machines are now eligible for all promotions
open to other video poker machines.
5. The "base" under the machines has been reduced
from 22" to 18", effectively lowering the machines by 4".
Giving in on these player-friendly changes is a form of
experiment by Silverton. If these changes induce considerably more play,
the classes will continue past the second semester and the machines will
remain. If the changes do not induce enough additional play, then my
days and the machine's days will be numbered.
The roadway construction in the area is essentially complete, so
access to the casino is easier than it has been. We still have one class
remaining in the current series, "Secrets of a Video Poker Winner,"
taught Tuesday the 12th at 10 a.m., and I will be demonstrating several
of the bankroll features of "Video Poker for Winners" in the class.
