Skip and others, the latest Consumer Reports I just received today has a
rundown on cell phones and providers (Feb 2005). Verizon tops the list of
seventeen area major cities polled. We have had Verizon for four years and just
renewed our contract for another two in October. The only time we had any sort of
problem was Dec 28th at LV Hilton, I tried to call husband who was in Sports
Book area playing and I was in Space Quest area. He got the call then it
apparentally jammed. The Hilton jammed it that is, shortly after he got the call,
he could not hear me, and a lady walked up and said he could not use his
phone in this area of the casino. I think the Hilton has installed jamming
equipment. On the other hand, had no problem calling him inside the Palms the other
day. The same in other local casinos. I also receive calls from outside
the casino while I am playing inside without any problems.
We bought the Samsung SCH-a650 phones when we renewed and are very happy with
them also. They were also a Consumer Report Quick Pick selection.
I have no problem recommending Verizon. We used it extensively on our cross
country travels connected with our move to Las Vegas in 2002 and 2003 and the
only area we did not have service were parts of New Mexico in the boonies and
northeastern Arizona. Otherwise our plan was roaming free so we used other
providers towers when we could not connect with Verizon.
