Does Video Poker and beer go together? I think so. On my last trip
to Laughlin, I wanted to try out the new brewmaster Marshall
Redmond"s creative talents at the Boiler Room in the Colorado Belle.
I knew things were looking up, as I discovered some new Game Kings
with MG/MD and TITO installed in place of the tired dollar BP games.
The games are all playable, and still had the quarter games linked to
the progressive with the older stuff to the right and left.

Now on to the beers. The beer of the month in June is an I.P.A.
(India Pale Ale). This beer is higher in alcohol at 7.4%,and by
nature is a very hoppy beer. The beer had a bit of a piney smell, and
a little fruity flavors. The beer was good, but it is a bit too much
hops for my tastes.

I tried the Golden Ale, which is a crisp Ale, and light on the hops.
Very good. Next was the Amber Ale which is very light in color with
some malt and caramel tastes. Very good also. The Pale Ale is another
beer with a more hoppy flavor, and a bit of an aftertaste. The last
beer I tried was the stout. It was one of my favorites with a very
good head and flavor to the brew. It has a dry taste to it with a bit
of chocolate and roasted malt flavorings.

Next month (July) the beer of the month will be a Hefeweizen. This
is a wheat beer, and one of my favorites. I don't think I will make
it to Laughlin next month, but perhaps someone can give it a try and
let me know.

I am glad I live so far away from Laughlin, as I could see myself
spending a lazy Saturday afternoon at the Boiler Room. The beers are
much better than they were a few months ago, but they are a long way
from the best microbrews I have tried.

Please, tell us where the best beer is brewed. I think the best IPA I have
had was a monthly one at MSS. They had a Cherry Stout once at MSS that was
tops.

As far as CB/Boiler Room the bartenders have improved too...actually paid
attention. The one daytime guy can actually get the games on too, some link the
the EW sportbook.

I am certainly no expert on beers, but I know what I like. I think the
Big Dog group in Las Vegas have made the best ones. I have not tried
them in a couple of years. There used to be Holy Cow! at Sahara and Las
Vegas Blvd, and that was one of my must go to places. This was part of
the Big Dogs group, and I remember a rasberry ale that was the best
microbrew I ever had. Yes, the MSS makes some great beers, and they are
still better than the Boiler Room. That Cherry Stout sounds good. There
are some very good local places here in Northern California, but that
is beyond the scope of this forum.

Speaking of bartenders, there was a 22 young gal working the Boiler
Room. She claimed to be full blooded Navajo, and she does speak the
language. She did not have much knowledge about the beers, but she had
some interesting stories about her ancestors. Her grandfather and great
uncle were code talkers during WW11, and she had some of her ancestors
that were involved in the long walk. Being from a non Indian area, I
found this to be quite interesting.
