CAT System

This is sheer nonsense. To make a run that covers a half dozen casinos, especially local casinos, would have you on a bus or waiting for a bus for an entire day.

Of course, for someone who thinks a three day (each way) Amtrak ride is a reasonable way to travel from the East Coast to Reno: what's one more day on a few local busses.

A rental car isn't needed to access any of the csinos in vegas. Use the
excellent CAT service from the airport that connects with routes all over town.

Taking CAT or Amtrak isn't nonsense. First of all, with proper planning, just as for an auto trip you are not waiting around all day, service on many routes has good frequencies. The Amtrak Service to Reno is very popular, and mnay enjoy the downtown to downtown convenience. Also, less energy wasted, less pollution, and much less contribution to global warming, something that we ALL need to be concerned about, and now!

Really? You've actually done this? Then show us your "proper plan"
for a cashback pickup run to Fiesta Rancho, GVR, Suncoast, Arizona
Charlies West, Palms, and Sams Town. Let's start from the airport and
allow 20 minutes to get from the bus stop to each casino, get the
cash and back to the busstop (a very optimistic assumption).

Secondly, I didn't question the generic use of Amtrak to Reno, which
might make sense from Northern California. Your suggestion was to use
Amtrak from Philadelphia or New York to Reno. That takes three days
each way.

And driving would be faster??

I have made coupon runs all over town many times using transit and without dificulty. I donlt ahve to waste time filling out rental car forms, checking the car for damages, finding a place to park, taking time to pay the credit card bills for renting the car, waitng for the rent a car shuttle to get me to my car and then to my airline, waiitng for Valet parking to return the car, and lastly, the time lost to make up the added $$$$$ for the far greater cost of using a rental car that taking CAT. By not owning a car, I can work one day less a week than those at the same income. To me that saves time, not wastes it!

As for Amtrak from the East, it is much faster than driving as the train keeps moving while you are sleeping. Yes a plane taking about 1 day (the real amounf of time when you consider time tot he airport, time thru security, time to check in, time to wait for bags, and time from the airport as well as time in the air, thus yes it's 2 days faster each way, but it also depends on what is done during those 2 days whether you are at home or traveling as you can do many things while traveling on a train.

pesach kremen: Don't worry about criticism of your life choices - you are doing life the way you want to!!!! A lot of people would have more to spend on the things they really want if they thought about the total real cost of a lot of things they do without considering alternatives.

We used to use the bus and shuttle systems to get around town when we stayed in Vegas for weeks at a time. We eventually did start getting a rental car because we could fit more money-making casino opportunities into one day and thus the car was "free."

Now that we are older - and have more money, we sometimes make different choices than when we were younger. But the only reason we have more money now is that we made EXTREMELY careful and well-thought-out choices for the last 65 or so years!!!

I think I've heard something about throwing stones while living in a
glass house. If he didn't have an autorespond that robotically and
annoyingly prints "CAT" everytime he reads the word "CAR", no one
would give a rat's tush that he chooses to spend his days tooling
around on the unreliable and haphazardly scheduled busses of Las
Vegas.

If one's budget dictates no car, well, then you have no alternative.
That doesn't justify criticizing and scolding the vast majority who
do use the four wheel planet destroyers that have raised the
temperature of pesach kremen's apartment 4-5 degrees and melted 40%
of the ice in his refrigerator. I'm assuming that's the climate
change being referenced because there is no such phenomenom occuring
anywhere else in nature.

You are so wrong - global warming is reality and making fun of me is inexcuseable - i want an immediate apology - the ice is melting in the arctic and the antartic, excessive use of autos is the main cause of polltuion and global warming. But even worse, rather than replying to the issues is making fun of the one psoting. You owe me an immediate apology. I have never made fun of you, and in fact have had several personal supportive emails about the antics of yourself and colleagues in being extremely intolerant to the point of ridiculing the views of others.

Hi Pesach.

You are NOT alone in your concern for the enviornment. I, as well
as many others, agree with you. Please read the post from Ned, The
Wild Joker, as well.

Unfortunately, most of us (myself included) are not as self-
sacrificing as you appear to be, and continue to use our private
cars instead of public transportation or even carpooling.

IMO, it would be a boon to the country if we had a lot more
concerned citizens such as yourself.
