Casinos in the San Diego Area

Hi California Kids!

This is my first post on this forum. I just joined this
morning in anticipation of our trip to San Diego, the end of May.

We are going primarily for the Cubs/Padres series, and will be
staying downtown at the Westin Horton Plaza.

The games are all night games so we will have some free time during
the day for a little casino hopping.

Though we have been to San Diego many times, we've never visited a
casino in CA, so I would welcome some informed advice from you folks.

I read Jim's (jimnkelli) excellent report and was disappointed to
learn that Harrahs Rincon is a VP wasteland. I did get lots of
valuable information from his post, and thank him for providing the
report.

I would appreciate any information on the following:

Which casino(s) are closest to downtown SD?

How long a drive would it be from downtown to the closest casino?

Do any of the casinos offer shuttle service from the downtown hotels
if we prefer not to drive?

If we only have time for one casino visit, which casino would
recommend?

Thanks for any advice you can provide!

I believe that Barona is the closest one, and about 30 min mostly just
straight out (east) I-8

again, of the 4 I visited Barona was one of the nicest and had the
most playable games and we were treated very excellent.
I dont know if they are still doing the new member $200 match (win or
loose) promo, but if so that is really Great.

Thanks for any advice you can provide!

Enjoy SD, it was great in Feb. and GOooooo Padres.... oops, I mean Cubbies

Thanks so much Jim, for your information. I appreciate it, as well
as your original post! We will definitely try to get to Barona'

BTW, it was NOT at all nice of you to root for the Padres! You've
hurt my feelings! You know that the Padres had their way with the
Cubs (in a NON-carnal sense, of course! (O:) in the sad year of
1984.

We were in SD then to see the Cubs get their butts whipped and
their WS dreams dashed by the "surfin' beach-boys".

We were also unfortunate enough to be in attendance at a Cubs/Padres
series in 2005 when the Padres comemmerated that dastardedly date in
1984. After sitting through the field ceremonies and viewing the
giant sized screen on the scoreboard, where plays from the final
1984 game were being projected, we were depressed for the rest of
game. It did help a tad, when the Cubbies won all three games with
the Surf-riders!

Anyway, I guess that I forgive you! (O:

Here's a map: http://www.signonsandiego.com/casinos/casinos.html

The closest casino to the airport is Sycuan.

The casino just off I-8 is Viejas. It's more like 40 minutes than 30
minutes from the airport.

Barona is at least an hour from the airport.

One can Google any of these names for details and directions. Some of
them run free round-trip buses once or twice a day, but not
necessarily from the airport.
