Casinos in Kansas

Are there going to be casinos built on the Kansas side of KC, or does
the newly-signed law limit the casinos to 3 locations elsewhere?

Also, the repeal of the loss limit appears to have the votes to pass
the State Senate, but it may not get through the House. It is just a
matter of time ...

Yes plans are to build a large Las Vegas-type destination casino/hotel
resort on the Kansas side, near the Kansas Speedway. The horse/dog
track, the Woodlands, located near the same area will get slots (and
we presume video poker). The bill passed by the Kansas legislature by
ONE vote also calls for a casino near Wichita, Dodge City, and
somewhere in SE Kansas. Don't look for anything soon, though, for the
bill must survive court challenges. And the challenges have a lot of
backing; (a) the anti-gambling do-gooders, (b) existing Indian casinos
in Kansas, and (c) the casinos on the Missouri side of the river. All
are fighting this tooth and nail. The sticking point is the state of
Kansas (under present law) will own the casinos, the only state in the
US to do so.

The Missouri loss limit repeal may not be good news for the average
gambler. In order to get the anti-gambling do-gooders to shut up and
sit down the other legislatures had to agree to jacking up the casino
tax to a back breaking 25% of all gross gambling revenues. You think
the VP is bad in KC now, just wait until that bill goes into effect.
It is not a done deal yet, it may still die on the vine.
