I'm taking a trip through Iowa this weekend -- they have approx 10
casinos in the state -- does anyone know if any are worth stopping
at, and which have decent VP?
Casinos in Iowa
Looks like there is not a lot of collective knowledge of Iowa casinos
on this group. I did a quick check of the data base and no Iowa
casinos are listed, at least in the Midwest section. Here's my
limited intel:
The ones I am most familiar with are the ones in Council Bluffs
(Omaha) -- there are three, Ameristar, Harrah's, and Bluffs Run.
Forget Bluffs Run (owned by Harrah's), they have no video poker
machines. Harrah's has no full pay VP machines but a few progressive
that sometimes go positive. Ameristar has a bank of 18-20 full pay 25
cent (9/6) DDB that are also progressive on both the Aces and the
Royal. It is by far the best gamble in the house. Needless to say
these machines are very busy on weekends. (A few months ago, I hit
the progressive royal on these machines). They also have some $1 9/6
JOB machines. Most of the rest -- and there are many -- are short pay.
There are some more "commerical" casinos on the Mississippi at the
eastern side of the state but I know very little about them. The rest
(interior) are Indian. The one at Tama was closed for a while due to
some internal tribal squabbling but I understand it is now open again.
The one time we visited they had several playable VPs but that was
before the closing.

Forgot to mention, Prairie Meadows in Des Moines also has no VP machines.
