LAS VEGAS In what is being hailed as a major victory for worker's
rights, the Tangiers casino has become the first in Las Vegas to
make tipping after a slot machine jackpot mandatory. Effective April
1, 2008 players will be barred from the casino if theyw receive more
than one slot machine handpay jackpot of over $1200 and don't give a
tip to the slot machine attendant.
The comparison to restaurant dining is more of a stretch than those
missing WMD that were never in Iraq. I've waited 30 minutes sometimes
on handpays and ruined my momentum. I have to tip for that? There's no
motivation for prompt service if a tip is guaranteed.
And let me understand this correctly: I drop $10K playing $5 DB. I
then hit a four-of-a-kind and get a taxable $1250. I break even for
awhile and hit another $1250. A $125 tip on a net loss of over $7K?
Lot of luck, Tangiers. I'll play where tips are more fairly based both
on the service AND my net for the day, not on your silly rules.
