I found this quote from a casino executive in the latest issue of
Strictly Slots. It's taken from an interview with the president of
Beau Rivage casino, in Gulfport, MS. I thought that some of you
might find it amusing.

"We have "free play," which doesn't require our guests to stand in a
line to redeem coin mailers. We can put it in a player's account so
it's there when you put your card in the machine. You've got free
play loaded into your account and are able to access it directly on
the gaming device. It's a huge part of our incentive in our marketing
programs. It's unlike anything else in our market. No one else has
free play in Mississippi, and it has been very well received by our
guests." (end of quote)

He's correct in that you don't have to stand in a line to redeem your
coin mailer ... instead you have to stand in a line to redeem your
free play coupon! Personally, I fail to see how standing in line to
redeem a free play coupon, then spending the time to run the free
play amount through a machine (while subjecting said amount to the
variance and % advantage of the game), then cashing out from the
machine, then standing in line at the cashier to finally get some
real cash is better for me than just getting the cash directly from
the clerk at the players club in one simple transaction. But, what
do I know???
Maybe with some practice I could work for a casino. How does this
sound? "Forget that cheap Double Bonus VP stuff, we have converted
all of our machines to Double Double Bonus, which is twice as good!
AND - Most blackjack games only pay you 3 to 2 for a natural, but WE
have blackjack games that pay you a whopping 6 to 5! 6 is a bigger
number than 3, so you KNOW it's better for the players!"
Hey - I think I'm starting to get the hang of this
