Casino Rama - VP Inventory

Horrors! The triple/five play machines are gone. (They've not been
physically removed, but they have new faceplates and innards).

They are now six multistrike and six super times pay machines.

They were doing the conversion today, and since they were not finished,
I have no other details. The area was roped off, and the screens
simply said "0ut of Service".

Neil

They'll probably replace them with short-pay machines that nobody will
want to play...and then Rama will blame the "Smoke-Free Ontario Act" for
the loss of business!

I tend to share your pessimistic view on this. Very few changes
these days in casinos are in the players' favor.

I doubt that there are enough knowledgeable video poker players who
will abandon Casino Rama if the replacement games are, indeed, short
pay, to have a serious impact on their business. From what I've seen
there, most people will just continue to play vp with crappy pay
scales poorly.

Perhaps the above says it all, i.e., they don't need great vp games
to attract players - the poorer games do it just fine - so why would
they have better games that give the better players a decent shot at
coming out ahead?

Casinos don't seem to want GAMBLERS anymore! For example: during a
busy period, why should people pay $25/spin for "00" roulette that is
often manned by surly dealers, when they can play for $1/spin at "0"
roulette at an internet casino?

I've told people who have just hit a flush or full house on a 6/5 JOB
game that Casino Rama has 7/6, 8/6 and even 9/6 JOB games just a few
feet away! The usual respons: "oh, I'm just playing for fun". Then,
of course, I overhear people saying something to the effect of "You
can never win at casinos". I research the games and even though I may
lose money overall, I WIN most times that I go to casinos!

I suppose that you should savour 9/6 JOB, 3/4/5x craps, and S17 BJ
while you can.

Replies appreciated.

Well I'll tell you guys one thing. If the inventory gets any worse at Rama, I'll just move more of my action to Niagara. I have
already started doing this since they reduced the bounce back cash at Rama. If Niagara goes downhill I'll just have more money for Vegas.

I have not bothered going to Rama in the better part of three years and have now
completely stopped going to Niagara because of their crappy inventory and very dubious
pay-outs.

I will still on rare occasion go to Woodbine as they still have some FP PKM and last
saturday scored a straight flush for $1199.00 and a four of a kind on Let It Ride for
$750.00, however it gets so noisy there, what with the lousy music and the booming
announcements over the loudspeakers, that I invariably flee the joint with a headache after
a couple of hours.

I am going to Vegas this weekend and to Tahoe and Reno at the end of the month and
can't wait to get there. IMHO for the most part the casinos here in Canada are so Mickey
Mouse compared to where and how one can play in Nevada.

Can't argue about the Mickey mouseness of the Casinos in Ontario. Too bad we don't have the same level of competition here.
I still believe the machines at Niagara are honest, I hit a straight flush on the 50 cent Pick-em machines on Wednesday and a quad on the $1 Pick-ems.

What is the deal on bounceback now? For the last 2 years I'd do about $3,500 coinin per visit, and get a BB cheque

My last 2 visits I haven't received the BB.

I have always believed that bonus cash is not awarded until a
stipulated daily coin-in amount is reached. I thought it was
somewhere in the $3000-3500 range. Perhaps, on your recent two
visits you fell slightly short of what they want? I wonder if Albert
could elaborate on his comment about bounce back.

My most recent trip there was last Tuesday. I just checked my
account on-line, and my bonus cash is there.

As much as I am distressed by what I expect to be a downgrade at
Rama, I have a hard time agreeing with the sentiment that it, and all
other Ontario casinos are "Mickey Mouse" operations.

In any event, we will just have to wait and see. These are our
entertainment dollars, and our priorities for spending them are
constantly changing. After several years of three or four trips
annually to Vegas, we were planning only one this year. Now, that
may change.

Neil

Re Rama Bounce Back cash . I have usually given Rama about 700 - 800 points per trip which works out to about 10.5 -12 k coin in per trip.
I used to get checks in the $60 neighbourhood, they have dropped to the $40 neighbourhood since around the beginning of the year.

The Ontario Casinos are Mickey Mouse when compared to those in Las Vegas.
In Las Vegas I get much better treatment for my level of play than I do at any casino here.
In Vegas you can find casinos with lots of good Video Poker, generous offers, easy to understand systems, try finding out how much
play is required here for anything and lots of luck.

The thing that makes Vegas good is lots of competition, there is not much of that here, although there is enough that Niagara has substantially
improved their cash back, although they are tighter on comps than at Rama, but they have better machines than at Rama so that puts them
ahead by a ratio of 2 to 1 (cash back and good machines versus easy comps). The bounce back cash at Niagara seems to be on a par with Rama.

I get out to Vegas about every 2 months and I almost always do better there than I do here.

Strange. We have not seen any change in our bonus cash at all. Our
most recent trip was our lowest daily coin-in in a long time, since
there were no multi-line machines available, but I still managed about
$12500 on the 9/7 DB. My bonus cash is $61.

A friend of mine who is also a regular told me that he felt his cash back had dropped as well, but he doesn't keep tight tracking of it like I do.
