Historically, I was a platinum card holder at Rama. In late 2010 I decided to no longer play there. In the last 30 months I've given them a total of maybe 20 minutes of play.
But I still get my share of VP action - I just wait until I'm in Vegas, Reno, or AC. If I really feel the need I drive the 90 minutes to Seneca Niagara in NY state. I spend about 20 nights a year in these casinos (all comped, of course). And on general principles I NEVER pay for food in a casino.
Today, I had a business meeting in Orillia, finishing around 4:30pm Feeling the itch to play a little VP, I drove over to Rama.
The 3/5/10 play 9-6 Jacks or Better machines were still there, so I sat at one and played five-play quarters for about three hours. My (approximately) $8k action earned me almost 300 club points - enough to qualify for a gold card.
Around 8pm I felt some hunger pangs, so I wandered over to the VIP desk.
I handed the host my (now long expired) platinum card, and explained that, while I have been away for a long time, "I'm back now, and I'm hungry - can you give me a pass for to the platinum lounge based on the play I've just given you?"
In his (accented) English he said "No platinum - but I can give you a gold card".
My reply - "I didn't ask for a card - I asked for a pass to the lounge so that I can eat, then play give you a few more hours of play."
His reply - a curt "No - you haven't' played here for 2 years"
I hesitated for a few seconds to give him a chance to offer me a comp slip for one of the other restaurants. Nothing but stoney silence from him.
My parting comment - Ok then, but you won't be seeing again me for the NEXT 2 years.
And they wonder why their profits are down?
