Linda, Thanks for the explanation. I found this all very confusing and irrelevant. Now, the only >confusing part is why anyone would be so personally nasty towards you.

Thanks Lainie. I don't understand why he commented on a post from a different group; still, I should have looked at my notes before I posted. (I said there were no VLTs in New Jersey, but gave the wrong reason--I posted a correction with the right reason. Jersey's State Constitution limits casinos to Atlantic City (1976), although a referendum could change that. Non-Tribal VLTs are found only in racinos and non-casino business venues, never in commercial casinos.)
Since the topic was mistakes in publications, I wanted to make it clear that this error wasn't in my book or one of my articles.

After all, you've written a terriffic book, great strategy cards and contribute a lot to the >"community,"

I really do appreciate your kind words about my work. My publishing house, Square One, gives its authors many opportunities to check for mistakes. I made my own charts to demonstrate points or clarify definitions--I had to carefully check the footnotes to make sure they were correct.

I've been writing and revising/improving video poker strategy cards for several years. My strategy cards for the 8 games I recommend are free with "The Video Poker Edge". The best way to know how good cards will work in a casino is to use them with your home practice software--mine work with WinPoker.

Positive comments from people like you and Babe, both smart players, are most welcome. Also, Brian--thanks and I missed seeing you at GBC! Linda

Lainie,

I've had time to reflect upon your assertion that I was "personally
nasty" toward Linda Boyd and I must concede that the cumulative
effect of actions may lead the casual observer to the same
conclusion. Quite frankly, I don't know Linda personally at all or
until this month, even by reputation. But she has become a Public
Person throught this Group and I felt priviledged to contribute
my "two cents".

I have to admit to some mistakes of my own. I used "All Caps" in my
post which is "SHOUTING". That was "bad etiquette." I use all caps in
my "notational work" which has different rules on this.

I was also "ignorant" of who Linda Boyd was and her "credentials."

Also, my "sarcastic" remark fell under the caption regarding "Casino
Player Magazine" and referenced a post to a different "Group" (Both
Groups are Yahoo and both are for Video Poker). That was misleading
but not intentional. I too am responsible for my actions.

The one person who has yet to comment on any of these matters is Mr.
Bob Dancer, the author of Video Poker Spotlight in CP Magazine. As
Mr. Dancer stated in this group, he regards someone as published
regardless of whether it is the commercial press, vanity press or a
group blog. I concur. (However, it helps to be able to say that
someone paid you for your expertise... And to make a living doing so.)

William, Thanks for your post; it helps clear things up. I know when I first started posting, I was very afraid that I would offend people by not using the right "netiquette" or by saying something that I thought others might find silly or inappropriate. (I was so cautious that I used to make my husband read my posts before submitting them.)

Just so you know, there seems to be different "cultural norms" on different boards -- and violating those norms (even innocently) can bring on wrath. I'm guessing that's what happened with you.

I'm not going to beat a dead horse, but I know that to me, there's a difference between criticising the message versus criticising the messenger. Also, I try really hard to be polite -- perhaps even more polite than I am "in real life," as people assign their interpretation of the writer's tone to their words.

There are a lot of really interesting folks on this board, who for the most part are nice, try to be helpful and contribute what they can. I learn a tremendous amount from them. There are some that criticize the pros for having tag lines and/or promoting their products. I know I appreciate the "free info" I get -- and I don't begrudge anyone making money for their professional expertise. My advice to those who are disturbed by that (or any other offending) practice (or poster) is to zap the posts from offending posters. It brings you much less angst and keeps the community friendlier.

  I hope this helps.
