Casino Montelago: meet the new boss

Got an invite to a meet-and-greet for Lake Las Vegas homeowners on Friday night, hosted by the new Casino Manager, Christopher Eissler.

He spent most of his time fielding inane questions from folks hoping that the specials at their Coffee Shop would return (they won't). However, I gleaned a few nuggets, FWIW:

He was formerly the Manager of the former casino at the former Hyatt Regency (now Loews) across the Lake. Not good news, that casino was worthless.

He plans to team up with the adjacent Viera Condos to offer comped rooms. Good news for condo owners and visiting players alike, as Casino Montelago has no hotel of its own.

He plans to convert the Lounge area to a High Roller pit. Smart move IMHO. Casino Montelago has always suffered from its low-roller targeted inventory located in the wealthiest patch of Clark County.

The coffee shop will be converted to a Northern Italian themed restaurant. They will add an Italian Deli.

One resident complained of being "no-mailed" for no good reason except that he had gotten some royals. Christopher's question: "Are you a pro?". The gentlemen said that he was the "furtherest thing from a pro".
Chris said he would look into it. I take Chris's pro paranoia as a bad omen.

He said that they were going to replace the bulk of the "aging" slot and video poker machines. I take this as another bad omen. I decided to refrain from inquiring as to the fate of their numerous 100%+ pay schedules.

I still have a few friends who still (not for long) receive a CML

mailer. To them and virtualy evreyone Ive talked to about this place,
CML is practucaly worthless NOW. Based on the fact that Mr.Eissler
asked someone straight up if they were a pro indicates two things.
First, ALL 100%+ vp is on suicide watch. Second, he's yet another
paranoid casino manager who not only hates advantage players, but
hates winners period. We all know the type; some Joe Shmo 'non-
advantage'gambler hits 3 dollar royals (on NSU) in 2 days and is
pegged a 'pro'. Not only does said Joe/Jane Shmo get thier
mailers/slot club privlages revoked/slashed but the paytables are
immediatly downgraded to Illinois dueces or worse. I havnt been to CML
for over a year and never shall I return. I still get thier anemic
minimum mailer, which I find hiliarious because I was told I wouldnt
be allowed to 'make a living' there. BTW, I understand that the
gentleman who told me that is the new slot director. Talk about making
bad news worse. He's already slashed the bar tops, slowed down any
machine with FPDW, and monitors anyone he suspects of being an
advantage player. My question is, if all the 100% games are removed
and replaced by sub 98.5% paytables (ala the Orleans) will this place
ever make money in the long run? Will the remaining few 'non-
advantage'players tolerate the enormous house egde?

My answer would be no. Have they ever shown a profit? Maybe they can
clip the Ritz vacationers while not having to deal with so-called
locals like you or me. I can recall being the sole diner in the Cafe
at 10:00PM. Or being one of ten players in the entire casino at
midnight. A place cannot make money in these examples.

I have said it before: I miss Melinda and Sherry the waitresses, but
I don't miss the inept management. Perhaps this example says it
well. There was a time that Monday though Thursday was 2X points on
all machines. One night, I was playing and noticed an odd number on
the meter, like 3 or 5. So I requested service. I was laughing when
four or five people showed up. I would point at the meter and
say "how can the number be odd on a 2X points day?". Anybody reading
this knows it can't, but these folks seemed to be clueless. Then I
tried the "your server is not working properly". Server? What is
that? Talk about idiots in casino.

Dan, nice rant. While they appear to know what they know, they do know
they've been getting swatted on the VP last couple of years, so
changes are going to be in order. You stand in Eissler's shoes, you
tell me how he would react, although his asking people at a M&G
whether or not they were pros is pretty remarkable.

The bottom line with all of this is that a) nothing good lasts
forever, and b) the fact that there are too many players who know how
to play makes the shelf life shorter and shorter.

Consider one Northern NV casino who offered multiline 100% Jacks with
1.6-2.4% bounceback. They pulled the plug on the bounceback last week,
but it only took them three years to figure out the VP wasn't
profitable. Paranoid? Remember, as one of my partners in crime is fond
of saying, the stupid pendulum swings both ways.
