CASH Bonus offers on the table: Pepps/Silver Legacy

Currently: $500 CASH Bonus at Silver Legacy.
  This is NOT $250 @ check-in + $250 more after 1250 points ($25,000
coin-in)
   It is $500 CASH.
   Offer expires June 30.
No fine print about needing to be checked-in at the Hotel.
I'm Sterling level card and this is the biggest offer I've ever
got from them.

Currently: $200 Free Play at Peppermill
Offer expires July 7 and there are some closed out weekend dates.

Also: special VIP drawings weekend at Peppermill
  June 3-4-5 with added $250 Free-Play.
I'm Platinum level card.

I've averaged approx $20,000 coin-in per day on trips to each casino
in the past 2 years.

VERY difficult for me to pass up a visit June 3-4-5 with such a $950
incentive.

Hi Mark,

That's good info, thanks! So far I've received $75 Free Play from the
Peppermill. When I got the offer I was at Bronze level and had only
played 50-55K total coin-in. The offer includes 2 nights comped up
front (Tower Room weekends or Spa Suite weekdays). I had the
impression that the room offer was "free" and carried no obligation
for a minimum amount of action for the weekend. When I asked my host
about the offer, he explained that the room is treated as a regular
comp and the casino rate is charged to your comp balance at the end
of the stay. He also said the free play was independent of the room
offer and shows in your account when the offer is issued (you don't
have to stay at the Peppermill to use it). What's your take on how
best to manage the Peppermill comp system?

On the subject of Free Play at the Peppermill, any suggestions on the
best way to use it? Is there any VP that qualifies for free Play?

I'm headed to the Peppermill this weekend. One of these weekends I'll
break out of my rut and go visit the Silver Legacy. I'm working on
learning 10/7 DB so I can get some $1 action in and generate enough
coin-in to cover the room and food tab in fewer hours. Hope your trip
goes well, I'll probably be in Reno agin in late June.

Cheers,

Martin

Hey Martin:
Well, I think you got more info than a lot of us have gotten, or at least shared, in a
while, believe it or not. I'll throw in my opinion since you asked for my take, but
there's this caveat: I have never really "worked" the comp system at Peppermill nor at
Silver Legacy.
I think I've gotten my comps via liberal discretionary comps from my hosts when I was
starting up, and since then I've maintained that level thru a combination of Hours of
daily play (I'd guess I average 12 hrs/day) and a mix of denoms .25/.50/$1. that
keeps my coin-in near 20K per day. It's really not by design - I do NOT watch my
points total (can't do it at Pepps, and it's a daily total at Silver on the machine display)
so I haven't tried to decode the levels and "play for points". I think there are
intangibles: one is I've brought in friends regularly via the Host, maybe that gets me
the extra Suite level or limo ride when my coin-in total sags below the formula.

The FreePlay at pepps can't be accessed to play the FPDW. I think it's just the sub-
100% games, BUT, I think I've played $1 10/6 DDB with freeplay credits in the high-
limit area, that game is over 100%, slightly. If you haven't used FreePlay yet, you set
it up at the promo/info booth, give them a 4-digit PIN and then easy-to-figure out
the rest. You can use FreePlay of almost ALL the VP machines.

I think you'll find that, as you have a host at Pepps and I think you have a healthy
comp balance, that you can get a room anytime you want, no need to stick to the
mailed room offer dates. I only eat one big meal a day, so I go for the Suite, but if I
was more frugal, I'd get a regular room as I don't spend much time in the room.

Silver's set-up is different and it has just changed in the last half a year. Room
charge does not come off your comp balance. I don't know how this works for 1st
time visitors. All I can recommend is that you get introduced to a host before your
visit to SL, let him or her know what comps you were getting at Peppermill, and I
think they will match that offer, with the usual disclaimer of "based on level of play".
The only other difference at Silver is their Cash Bonus is CASH on the barrelhead. If
you can make it past the gauntlet of machines between the cashier cages and the
street, it is pure profit.

As far as movin' up to $1 coin to cover comps, eh,... no. Not a good reason. Make it
part of your money manangement plan, make sure it won't bust your budget on a
trip, and make sure you are as comfortable and excited playing the dollars before
you step up to that level. Folks that get nervous as they move up, don't play properly
as they are distracted worrying about bankroll, plus they aren't usually having FUN
playing over their head. Seems to me you put in a good amount of hours, the ten-
coin FPDW at Pepps should get you all the comps you need.

And I don't have a next visit planned yet. But thanks for the good wishes.

The FreePlay at pepps can't be accessed to play the FPDW.

It doesn't work on one of the banks, and does work on at least some of the machines on the other bank (or at least did, I've definitely used Free Play on the FPDW).

I think it's just the sub-
100% games,

This is definitely not true. It definitely works on many of the machines in the high limit area that have 10/7 DB and 10/6 DDB. It should work on any machine that has the green "Free Play" sticker on it, and I've found that it also works on some machines that don't have the sticker.

BUT, I think I've played $1 10/6 DDB with freeplay credits in the high-
limit area, that game is over 100%, slightly. If you haven't used FreePlay yet, you set

Most of the mailed room offers come off your comp balance anyway. There are exceptions - mailed coupons, slot desk coupons, card swipe coupons, and coupons from promotional booklets do not come off your comp balance. If you use a coupon that does not come off your comp balance, you will be charged the daily "energy surcharge" on the room. If you use comps, you won't.

The room will be charged to your comp balance, but the fact that you got the mailer suggests that you already have that in your comp balance. If you don't, and you don't play, I don't think you'll be presented with a bill at the end, but you will now have a negative comp balance, and may have harder time booking rooms in the future unless you put in some play without stay. Of course, it's up to your host to decide exactly what happens here.

It depends on what you want out of the comp system. One way to go about it is to talk with your host about how much you play, and if there's something you want ask him if it's likely that play will get you what you want. If your trips all tend to be about the same average play/day, then after a few trips you can get a good feel for what you can get with your level of play.

DB is a volatile beast. If you decide you want to play it at the $ level, expect to have swings of up and down a couple grand in very short order. Bring plenty of money if you want to try this.

Thanks for the feedback Mark & Part Timer,

I'll see if I can use my Free Play on FPDW or 10/7 DB (those are the
only two games I've practiced so far).

I think you'll find that, as you have a host at Pepps and I think

I booked a tower room for this trip, but I might ask for an upgrade
to a Spa Suite. I think I'm generating a fair bit more in comps than
I'm using. On a 3 day trip I like to have one nice meal and 3 or so
coffee shop meals. I try to avoid buffets, I lose all self control
and eat way too much :stuck_out_tongue:

Sorry if these seem like dumb questions, but I'm pretty new to the
casino scene. So far I've used comp $ for food and rooms (Free Stuff!
Still very cool and just as satisfying as a wining day at the
machines). What else can you do with comp $ at the Peppermill? I'm
not a big drinker but I do like a nice glass of wine (I think the
Piano Bar has a decent selection of good wine). Is there any
advantage to holding a high comp balance? I know comp $ expire in 12
months, but does the comp balance influence free play or other offers?

DB is a volatile beast. If you decide you want to play it at the
$ level, expect to have swings of up and down a couple grand in

Hmmm, I think I'm prepared. I've done the gambler's ruin
calculations. I've also calculated what to expect for an extreme day,
weekend, week...We'll see how I feel during a "bad" session.

Oooh...one other question. Do you tip a casino host?

Cheers,

Martin

Hey Martin:
Part Timer's advice is best on using the FreePlay: try it on all
machines, for sure on the ones with the freeplay stickers.
As far as carrying a comp balance- maybe some day you will
wanna "pick up the tab" treat for dinner for more than yourself?
That's a good useage. I think you can buy stuff at the gift shop
with a comp slip from the host for $XX. I did this once for some
cigars and trinkets at the gift shop, pre-arranged $30 or so on a
slip from the Host. There's probably an easier way.

I think it might be "TRIP/Daily average coin-in" that influences the
offers and free-play - not comp balance at all. FreePlay might be a
function of your previous visit coin-in or coin-in daily average.
Once you are Platinum card or higher (a function of accumulated
total points, not averages), you'll get the perks listed on the
website and the brochure at the promo booth. A lot of this stuff
they've kept purposely mysterious at Peppermill.

As far as "tips" to the Host: I took the advice of one of the
veteran vpFree posters long ago and every other trip or so, I wrap
up a nice gift for my host: a coffee table book, a DVD maybe or
something unique to you, your town, your part of the world. Just
something thoughtful. CASH would be GAUCHE, I'm told.
