Case dropped against Watanabe

From the Review-Journal
"Chief Deputy District Attorney Bernie Zadrowski told Mosley his office was dismissing theft charges against Watanabe, a 53-year-old Nebraska philanthropist, as a result of a "global settlement" in the civil litigation between Watanabe and Harrah's over the unpaid gambling markers."

I think that this shows that the DA's office is not acting as an organization to prosecute crimes, but rather as the casino's collection agent. If the crime was committed, then the fact that the complainant has settled a civil claim with the defendant is not a basis for dismissing the criminal action. My take is that the DA's office was a willing participant in a shakedown by Harrahs. The DA's office is an emberassment to responsible prosecutors everywhere. It Stinks!!
