Carrying Money to a casino

Wouldn't a casino that allows you a line of credit also extend you personal
check cashing privileges? I've never looked into credit lines, how much
trouble is it ?

I'm glad someone raised this point. If you tap a credit line, I've
always assumed that the casino in question wants to see adequate play
to warrant the draw (assuring them that you're not just using them to
get a 7-day float on their money to pay bills, or whatever).

I've been edgy about carrying multiple lines since I believe that most
casinos report line availability to credit bureaus each month. (The
limited lines I have open are.) While these can be explained to any
potential lender, any initial evaluation of credit worthiness will
factor the available lines as additional room to hang yourself and
will adversely affect your credit score accordingly.

(I'll cede to anyone who has evidence/experience to the contrary, and
I'll admit that until you're talking about a sizable aggregate amount
that this is a topic of limited concern.)

Long ago, I found that establishing casino credit was the way to go.
A credit line eliminates the various dangers of carrying a wad of
cash, the hassles of obtaining/cashing traveler's checks, and the fees
and money limits of ATM transactions. They are simple to open. All
you need to do is either call or stop by the main cage where you'll
get (usually) a simple one page application form. After you complete
and submit the form, your credit line will normally be up and running
in two or three days at most. I've had one ready to go in a matter of
several hours on one occasion.

You access the money by either writing a personal check or taking a
marker. Markers are quite painless and frugal too in that you
generally have up to 30 days from the marker date to re-pay the money.
Consequently, what you are getting is an interest-free loan. If you
don't pay it off but choose to ignore it, they will cash the check (a
marker is simply a check drawn on your account).

I currently have five active credit lines at casinos in LV ranging
from $3000 (opened ten years ago at least) to $10000 (opened just this
past year). The occasions when I have accessed a line but played
elsewhere have never drawn any attention or comment whatsoever. In my
opinion, you should never leave home without one.
