After reading all the posts concerning the carrying of cash into and
out of casinos, has anyone personally had a bad experience reagarding
this?
Carrying Cash
Hi. As long as you stay in the well-traveled casino districts (Fremont Street, the Strip), you should have no problems unless you walk around flashing big wads of $100 bills. There are cops and security cameras everywhere, and chances you'll be mugged are slim.
If you go out into town, especially alone in some not-so-nice areas, lock the cash in your room.
I had one problem in Vegas, but it didn't have to do with cash. I was staying at the Imperial Palace, and some guy used a ruse to get hold of my name and room number, and charge a bunch of stuff to my room. Security caught it before I checked out and noticed all the phony charges. (He got busted when he called room service from the "spa." That aroused suspicions. I ended up getting subpoenaed back to Vegas to testify against him, and the state paid my way, including two nights in the Golden Nugget.
Vegas police take crimes against visitors very seriously. They don't want to get the reputation Atlantic City had as a crime-ridden jungle. AC has been cleaned up a lot, the crime rate lowered, but that myth still circulates.
