I recently took a Carnival Cruise from Galveston. Here's what I saw in
the casino:
Video Poker: Horrible. Games like 7/5 JOB.
Blackjack: Rules were OK if you are just a basic strategy player. Not
much for card counters however - a few tables of 8 deck shoes with poor
penetration.
Live Poker: One table that dealt 5/10 limit hold 'em. Players were
mostly clueless, mixed in with a few people that seemed to know what
they were doing.
Other table games: Standard stuff like craps, roulette, and carnival
games like 3 card poker.
Slot machines: Yes, plenty.
Other: Those strange mechanical things with the push rods where you
shoot quarters into the machine and the push rods shove the quarters
toward the front of the machine. Every now and then some quarters fall
off the front edge of the machine and into the coin tray.
Players club: Yes. But I don't know any of the details.

I was just about to ask the same question. I am cruising on the Carnival
Ecstasy in Sept. I would like to play VP in the casino, but I don't know if
it is worth it - any insight??

I went on a cruise in April. The best I saw was 6/5 JOB. I wasn't even going to play because of the terrible paytables but on the last night I put in $40 and hit a royal within 10 min.
FYI: I'm also going on the Ecstasy in Sept.
