Card pulling

Card pulling is if you see you might have a big win (like u are dealt a quad or 4 to the royal) and then pull the card and keep it out while the win registers so your account shows lower win.

That is different from what I did to ensure points are registering. I just randomly pulled out my card, put it back in, so my card does show all the wins and losses (I didn't skip a win). So no attempt on my part to "falsify" my actual play or win totals.

Would card pulling actually help someone? Maybe, a little, but obviously if u do this all the time u would also skip putting in the money on the next hand, so your coin in totals would be lower, and if u did this a lot, your play would slow down. So I'm of the opinion this tactic is of dubious help in upping any comps you might get.

A better technique might be to "play" two machines at once. On the second machine just play slowly, even hardly at all, just to increase your total time playing on machines. This is because some casinos like you to play for longer amount of time, so your offers might increase if you show "four" hours of play, when actually you are playing two hours on one machine, while your card is also in the second machine with extremely little play. I've done that on rare occasions, just leaving a hand in mid-play for several minutes. You have to be careful that no robber comes by while you are concentrating on machine number one and removes your money from machine number two, and leaving a hand in mid play helps reduce the likelihood of someone cashing out when u weren't looking, because they can't in mid hand.

I have found that a number of casinos have come up with a solution to card pullers. If you try pulling your card the system retains the information and your win is recorded anyway. I have come to this conclusion by trying to put my card into a machine during a hand, and get the message that “A carded session is in progress” and the system will not accept the card until the hand is over.

I could be wrong, but that’s my thoughts on the matter.

Regards

A.P.

  1. Some casino networks are so slow that the last $100 coin-in might not register after a card pull (if you play fast). I first noticed this on a 5x pts day when I seemed a few thousand pts short.

This can be a reason to do the reverse of a card pull. Just before you quit a game, make sure your pts have updated on the screen before leaving the game.

  1. If a casino bases its offers primarily on win/loss rather than theo, you may want to play with no card whenever your edge is 102%, 105%, or …

Some people play ultimate X with no card on good multipliers, but playing with & without a card may get you in trouble with some casinos (especially if a loss rebate is involved).

Casino software can be set to merge sessions (card for 10 min, no card for 1 min, card for 10 min). Harrah’s did this when I checked in 2009. Another casino told me they could do this with their software, but considered it not worth the risk of combining play from 2 players improperly.

  1. Some casinos correctly register card pulls on most (but not all) machines - e.g. They will use the cash balance at the end of your hand.

3a) Older machines might not communicate 100% effectively with the new software, so errors may occur.

3b) The algorithm used may be different during 1x pts & multiplier days. One casino had correct calculations during multiplier periods, but card pulls worked on other times (older algorithm I was told).

  1. Some systems can lose the first few hands you play after inserting a card. Usually a machine will record activity & credit your account, but sometimes you need to wait until your name appears on the screen.

  2. Your session might be held open after you take out your card (for 10 min or all day) - might be to the advantage of a point hustler, but could be bad to your win/loss record if the next person wins big.

So when starting to play I make sure my name appears on the machine. sometimes a slot tech must reset something to erase the previous card.

Summary: it’s software. With all the bugs you might expect. Just think of all the possible database errors & network errors…some casino out there probably has that error.

  1. Win/Loss statements also have this issue. Many of my win/loss statements are missing some of my W-2s. Accounting & players club software might not integrate properly so info is lost/altered.
