Car Rental Prices

I'll chip into this one. A good part of the problem is likely the ongoing
United States Bowling Congress' annual National tournament, which runs for
about 6 months starting in January. I just had to forego a BJ tournament at LVH
next weekend because of the obnoxious airfares, seems there is a very large
contingent of Detroit area bowlers heading to Vegas at the same time. Supply
and demand, I guess.

If you think about it, the equipment used by bowlers is quite heavy so
public transportation isn't an option for them. Could explain the rise in rental
car rates.

Anyone have an idea why Las Vegas car rental prices have increased

i agree prices have went up alot recently. In January, i got a
full size car for ten days for a total of $148 (including taxes) from
enterprise.(this was during part of CES also)

On Feb 16 i booked a car for a week in april for $200 for a full size. Now prices have almost doubled for that same car. Marksalot30 wrote:

A good part of the problem has been the cost of cars to the rental
agencies. Many of their contracts with major auto makers have been
revised. They no longer receive many of previous discounts for fleets.

Also the prices they are receiving for resale of the rental cars is not
what it was.

These are probably not temporary increases. The days of the $9/day
rentals are gone.

Car prices have fallen in San Diego. I just rented a luxury car for a
week for $281 and that includes tax. Oddly, I'm trying to rent another
one for my Vegas trip March 12, but there are none available at Avis.

One of their agents told me they were reducing their fleet ginormously.

Yeap, 4 day rental at the end of March is costing me $200 and Avis is
the cheapest (shocking!). This would normally be half that on Thrifty.

Oh well...

I just checked alamo.com Since you didn't state the exact dates, I
plugged in Mar 27- Mar 30, and came up with $10 per day through their
weekend special link. What dates were you looking at?

I booked with Alamo on that same deal for my trip 3/5 to 3/9.
However, that only includes one driver (which is unusual for them).
It's costing an extra $10 a day to add a second driver to my
reservation (which I need). It changed my rate from $86 to $120,
which is a big difference. However, it's still the best deal I can
find and I finally gave up and decided it wasn't worth any more of my
time to keep checking over and over.
