Anyone have an idea why Las Vegas car rental prices have increased so much since January?

It may have to do with conventions in town. I have always been pleased
with the prices and service at Dollar.

I was wondering that, too. I tried booking a Thur-to-Wed car last week
and was getting quotes like $350 at all the majors and most of the
minors. I had to shave 2 days off the front end and booked a 4-day car
for $145.
I think it was a temporary blip. I just checked for late April, and
weekly prices are $170-$180 at all but the big 3.
With the current state budget crisis, I expect them to raise fees and
taxes if they haven't done so already.

Guess I should be more specific. I've rented cars in Vegas for the last 2 years, the price has pretty much been consistant. A five day rental for $100 or less, total price. Most rentals were from Alamo or Dollar. Rented from Alamo in January for $88, total price. Checking prices on rentals in March and April, they are double that or more. Also, thought there were conventions year round in Vegas.

Although I am uncertain s to why prices have swung upward, I do know
that Fox (off the airport by Pebble and Las Vegas Blvd) has prices
about 40% cheaper than most rental places. Service can be a bit slow
--but worth the wait.

I was there from February 4-12 and got an 8 day rental from Dollar for $163, including taxes. It was for a compact, but I was upgraded to a PT Cruiser.
