Unless you register car in Jackpot, NV which is what one fellow did. However,
he had a motor home too.

when I moved to Vegas (from Ohio), the only increases I noticed were gasoline and auto registration (which went from $35/yr. to over $350/yr.) Food cost about the same, and my car insurance didn't increase much either. The elimination of the state tax offset the increase in my expenses, and then some. I didn't notice the cost of living as being way higher than other places, and it's certainly a lot lower than places like southern CA.

Well, of course, I'm from Ohio also, but if you did grocery shopping in
Ohio and you shop here now, the prices are definitely higher. I return
to Ohio twice a year so I can still compare pretty often. Our car
insurance more than tripled for less than half the coverage we had and
Nevada is rated among the highest for car insurance costs of all states.

Same is true for northern CA and much of the tri-state area (ny , nj, conn).

We've been watching the economy , housing etc. out there for about 7 years
and even though it's definitely gone up a bit so have other areas too.

Well, I must also note that I moved back to Ohio in '97, so it's been a while. I spent last week in Vegas on vacation, and I noticed that some things were certainly more expensive (in a ratio with Ohio) than before. I can't make a current assessment of auto insurance, but I don't doubt your claims. Gasoline is about 25 cents more expensive in Vegas, that's for sure. Also, housing seems to have gone through the roof. I wish we'd held on to our house in Vegas, at least as a rental, when we moved back to Ohio, as we'd have made a killing on it in today's Vegas housing market.

We are moving to LV sometime this fall from L.I., NY and for us, almost
everything is cheaper in LV. I know car registration is high, but I think
car ins is cheaper in LV than here on L.I. I think gas is about the same.
The huge difference for us is the dramatic difference in the cost of real
estate. Here on Long Island, home values have been increasing at a rate of
17 to 26% per year and our home has almost tripled in value over the last
seven years. Homes in LV now cost 1/2 to 1/3 of what they do here. Real
estate taxes are also much cheaper in LV. Our r/e tax this year is $10,450,
which is about average for here.

That's sort of what I was referring to.

We bought our home in Summerlin for $150K in 1996, sold it for $161K in 1997, and it just sold again last week for $229K. Newer homes are selling within hours after listing, and there are lists a mile long for the newer developments of homes not even built yet. It wasn't like this when we lived there not so long ago.

SHY HIGH? I think they are very reasonable - been watching and
tracking the market for several years and it has had a nice growth
rate but nothing like I have seen in other parts of the country..and
