A little off the subject but all the 2007-WSOP press reminded me of a
observation I made last year. Is it just me or does last years
winner,
Jamie Gold, look like a complete weasel! The guy looks like some
shady
character trying to swindle some rich widower in a lifetime channel
movie! I found his subtle condescention ,smug grins, and glib remarks
quite irritating! It may sound like sour grapes, but I was really
pulling for Greg Raymer in '04 and I wouldnt mind being '05 winner
Dominick Hachem for a day (handsome, cool australian accent, and WSOP
champion!). Id love to see a likable regular Joe win it all this year
rather than a weasly-eyed grifter who got tutored by Johny Chan
beacuse he did a documentary on him! Just some quick thoughts, would
love yalls input, esp. those of you who play live poker.

Stanley Sludikoff of Pokerplayer Magazine thought Gold should be barred
from this years event. Gold violated some rules then won the
tournament. But it is not his fault Harrah's did not enforce the
rules. 86'ing players is a slippery slope. beckey Binion 86'ed a few
players for criticizing the rake at one World Series one year. It took
some advocates going in and smoozing her to get them back in. How
about the guy who played the $100 FPDW at Caesars. Didn't he get
barred off of all Harrah's Las Vegas property and wasn't going to be
able to play in the WSOP.
As far as the chop on the money Gold said he held out only to resolve
the tax situation between him and the other party. Gold said he
thought he might get stung for all the taxes while getting only half
the money.
Hachem got real cocky in tournaments subsequent to his WSOP win.
For my money I'd like to see Hoyt Corkins win it. He's 100% gentleman
100% of the time. Never critizes anyone and never throws a fit. Even
when he has to play with the likes of Hellmuth and Matusaw.
Incidentally, I got an eye-witness account of Hellmuth getting knocked
out of the final event this year. I was told that Hellmuth was
knocked out in 4 hours. His last hand was pocket Aces. The other guy
flopped top pair with a flush draw. The flush got there and Hellmuth
went Ballistic. So much so that the crowd gave him a standing ovation
for his childish act. I Hope it's all true. It'll be great TV. I
love laughing at Hellmuth when he gets knocked out.
