Cannery & Harrah's/Rio Info

Returned from an 8-nighter to Vegas and while I do not have the time
to put together a TR, I do want to share two bits of information.

Cannery: During my pre-trip info gathering, I read at several sites
that the Cannery was having the VISA card and silk shirt promotions
for August. The sites also stated that during the month of August
there would be no COD. This information was incorrect. COD is in
effect; I apologize that this info is being shared so late.

Rio: Unless full coin is played at the bar, drinks are full price.
I do not play at Rio at all, but was staying there. A colleague that
I was travelling with (gambling virgin), sat at the bar to play
while waiting for me to get ready for dinner. Having never played
before, he was cautious and only played one coin at a time. The
bartender told him he had to pay full price for a bottle of Miller
Lite unless he was playing full-coin. While I always play full-
coin, I have seen many people over the years play short coin to get
some fancy/exotic drink and then cash out and leave as soon as the
drink was delivered to them. This was a first for me (and
embarrassing as I had told him all drinks would be free in Vegas as
long as he was playing).

Harrah's: Embarrassment number two (he must think I am terribly
misinformed or worse). Steve (my colleague) was staying at
Harrah's. Having learned his lesson the night before, he opted to
play full-coin at Harrah's bar. While playing, he ordered a Miller
Lite. The bartender charged him $6!! I would have walked away.
Steve is a quiet, nonconfrontational kind of guy and paid. I cannot
believe Harrah's would charge a playing customer for a beer... and
$6 no less!! He never played again. First time in Vegas, first time
ever gambling, and the guy quit after playing $20. Maybe Harrah's
did him a huge favor....

Bartenders will and do look at how many coins you start with, and they care how much you tip them. The following technique will work
with one coin no matter where you go.
#1 ask the bartender for $100 in silver, or put a $100 bill into the machine - tell the bartender "got you covered buddy, if I win - you win!"
#2 play 1 coin at a time - slowly - its ok
#3 tip the bartender $2 a drink, put into his/her cup as the drink is delivered.

regards and best wishes...Tom

Corrina: first let me state that every bar is different even
within the same casino and that even at that same bar it might
depend upon the bartender. But every casino has a policy and
usually is full coin, and I have even been quoted the machine had to
be fed with a twenty... after depositing a ten.
Too bad I was not with him I would have got him drunk for you, for
free. HEHE

Again Corrina: He probably got a bartender who hadnt rung the
register for any orders yet and didnt offer to comp the drink, I am
sure all he had to do is like Jean Scott says... is ask. A drink is
the easist of all comps to get, but there is a proper ettiquette
(sp?) in going about it. Vegas bartenders deal in one time
tourists so they are looking to ring the till and collect a tip as
well.

Sorry, Corrina tell him you will look me up next time you go and I
not only will get him drunk but hooked on VP, and who knows...lets
get some Royals. Beachstu

Awwwww.........Your last TR was so GREAT, I hope you can find time
to write at least an expurgated version for reading pleasure of lit
members.

I especially want to know if the RF Goddess located you at the Rio.
I think she was looking for you at Harrah's instead!

This another example of the Harrah's we all know & HATE! How
incredibly cheap and tacky can they be. I would have told the
bartender to take the $6.00 Beer and use it for mouthwash!

Sorry you had such an embarrasing experience!

Best regards,

Babe
