Cannery First reaction and some questions.

I went to the new Cannery today. Very crowded. The slot club
was overwhelmed Seems like they should know better than to
set it up with what looked like only 2 people being served at a
time. Hopefully things will get better later, but sheesh, they
could set up a temporary overflow line. Those ploppies standing
in line are NOT feeding a keno machine. Such foolishness most
certainly costs them more than they realize.

I was pleasantly surprised at the overall interior. Hard to believe
it is the old Nevada Palace. I think the high ceiling makes all
the difference in the world. Its no Taj Mahal. In fact, it has a
warehouse kind of feel. But for a warehouse, its not half bad.
My only complaint with the layout was that it was bit too simple
and there were way too many machines that were seemingly identical
to each other. I like cities that have streets laid out in grids,
but in a casino that idea can be overdone.

Almost every VP machine was a new Game King with multi-deno,
multi-game. Even the games themselves were almost the
same on each of these.

VP...

I did not see the FPDW bank, but I am glad it is there.
I don't play very much quarter single lines anymore, but I still
cash out my free play on them. I was disappointed to see that
all the Super Times Pay, Multistrike, etc. games were saddled with
lousy paytables. I was happy to see multiline JOB, which is not
found at the Cannery (North?). I saw VERY few progressives.
The one I remember seeing had such a brutal base paytable that it will
probably never get playable. If I were running a casino, many
of my machines would be progressives and many of them would feature
one game. Some would have awful base paytables. After all, I would
never want to deny a sheep his right to be fleeced, but I'd also
put some out that would actually get positive once in awhile.

I don't know if the full pay games get slashed points, though I
suspect that will come soon enough if it hasn't already.

Food...

I did not eat.

Parking...

Seemed pretty full, but I found a spot so I did not really notice
if it was a sever problem.

Pit...

Sorry, I gave up BJ long time ago unless I have a match play.
Given the current situation in Vegas, I doubt there is anything
special going on there.

OVERALL RATING.... B+

About what I expected with a couple of mildly pleasant surprises
in the VP, but nothing mouth-watering and what I perceive to be a
couple clear errors of omission.

I do have a few questions...

1. Although their literature says the points can be used at either
Cannery, it seems like maybe they are two distinct slot clubs.
My old Cannery card did not work in any machine, but my new one
(I got it online hoping to get a low number, but I was 12000 and
change) registered just fine.

Are the two slot clubs more or less independent?

If I play both places, will each send me a unique mailer, or will
my play be combined for both and still result in one mailer?
In other words, are they like the Stations or like the Coasts
when it comes to mailers?

Does anybody know anything about their mailer levels? I'm pretty
sure the new slot club at the old Cannery now has 125,000 pts for
high flyer. Will it be the same there?

I also noticed that their slot club is only offering 3x points
instead of 5x points. Since they have multiline JOB, I am fine
with that. I really don't much like Bonus Poker and JOB is
more than 0.33% better than Bonus Poker, so the play is actually
a bit better also.

they get $1 = 1 pt...same as the north cannery

for now they are independent...think it is them not knowing how to use
computers...you need a card for each place and should get separate
mailers...at some time in the future they should only require one card
for both places...

the slot club has the same levels...will have to actually get mailers
from them to see how they compare...

be careful at the new cannery.

not all of my sessions have been included in my total points. i've
spoken to three other players who have had the same problem. one sat
down with 6000 points on her card, played through 8000 points, and
over an hour later, she still had 6000 points. then she played through
1000 points, and it nearly immediately updated her to 7000 points,
when she should have had 15000.

i'm sure the players club could untangle these problems and assign the
correct point totals, but, well, you've seen the lines at the players
club. i'll wait a week or two before going back rather than waiting
through a 30-60 minute line to talk to someone who may or may not be
able to fix things.

basically, if you want to play at eastside, be sure to leave yourself
an extra hour or two to deal with the screwups.

cheers,

Just prior to closing, Nevada Palace offered enrollment in the new Cannery program, with the understanding that they would double your existing cashback, and mail a player's card.

I've never heard from them. Anybody have a similar, or perhaps more favorable, experience?

I signed up for a new card under that promotion. I got the new card in
the mail, but I have not been in yet to confirm whether the points are
actually on the card.

You could always use the easy button method to solve this type of problem.
Phone the casino and ask for the host on duty. You may only get to leave a
voice mail message in which you give your name and player card number and a
brief description of your problem. Ask the host to call you when the
problem is solved. This is part of their job and I think that they will be
more than happy to help you. Of course, if you believe that it is the
intent of a newly opened property to piss off patrons right out of the gate,
you probably deserve to just go stand in the line. There are always
glitches when any new business opens and most of the time I am quite sure
that management wants to solve these problems just as quickly and
efficiently as you do. Your subject line also indicated that you had some
questions. I did not see any questions in your post. What did I miss?

to give them credit, i showed up a few days later and all my points
had appeared, without any need for talking to a host or the players
club to get it fixed. points played that day showed up within a few
minutes of being earned.

players club is still badly understaffed, but looks like they've got
the points system worked out. either that or i just got lucky on this
latest visit.

Here's my VPFree Tip of the Month....

There's a real simple way to get a card w/out standing in line at ES
Cannery. Go the table games area and find the pit that has a card
printing machine. Walk up to a floor supervisor with your ID, and a
wad of cash, in hand. The wad-o-cash is to show the floor supervisor
that you're a player which almost always gets a positive response.
When the boss hands you the card, smile and offer thanks. I'd
recommend a lap around the pit, just for show, before heading to your
favorite VP machines.

I had a good friend use this technique last Saturday evening when the
Player's Club line was about 100 deep. He had his card in hand in
around 60 seconds.

I'm currently in Las Vegas, did visit the Eastside Cannery on Friday, noticed the points were slow being earned but apparently are all ok. Played the 10-7 DB VP, earned a few bucks and got the grand opening hat and shirt, plus the dry fit shirt.

Agree, the player club needs more help. Very long lines.

good luck.

Scott.

They're shortstaffed right now with a very inexperienced slot club
staff. It's not a bad inventory though and not a bad program. Most of
the folks in line are new signups. I think the place has high upside
and will help develop the Boulder Hwy/Eastside market.
