I think this has been kind of run into the ground, but in the USA all
winnings are taxable. Even winning $2 is taxable, people get hung up
on the w2g that is generated if you win more than $1200 in one event.
It is funny, but it seems that table players are quasi exempt from
this, since I have seen many (at least a few times) table players win
more than $1200 on a hand/roll/whatever single event and never have
seen a w2g generated. But if you are $15 (or any amount) ahead at the
end of the year you are required by the IRS to declare it even if you
never received a w2g all year.
May we all be ahead at the end of this year!!!

As an American, I can confirm from my experience at Casino
Rama that they do not ask for ID when you hit a royal flush
of $2000. As you say, that it is still taxable for US
purposes.
