calculating # of hands?

To those of you who say how many VP hands you've played in the past 6
decades, etc. how do you know? Actually, what I'm really asking is,
how do you know how many hands you play at one sitting? Is it
because you figure you play, say 600 hands per hour, and you were
there 82 straight hours, or is there another way? Just curious.
Thanks. Bill

Speaking for myself, I keep detailed records of each machine session.
In the case of those casinos that report your play "points", it's a
simple matter to convert the related coin-in into number of hands played.

In the case of those casinos where play must be estimated, I generally
run a timed trial of hands (say 5 minutes) on a machine to determine a
speed that I'm comfortable with. I track breaks at the machine with
some accuracy. From this, I estimate my overall play ... which in
many cases I can validate subsequently based upon cashback earned that
trip, drawing entries earned from play per $1000/coin-in, etc.

I regularly "calibrate" my estimates by making similar play estimates
at casinos where I can immediately check my play amount afterward.

Just chalk me up as potentially being afflicted with OCD :).
