Caesars Windsor

Hi Gang:
Hedy and I are contemplating a Seven Stars trip to Caesars Windsor this summer. Can anyone recommend a good host that we can contact prior to our trip? Also any info on the property will be helpful. We've never been there but have family not far away in Michigan that we want to visit.
Thanks in advance for any help.

I have been there several times, but unfortunately my host is no longer there. Maybe have your favorite host in the US recommend a host there.

It is a non-smoking casino, so nice for those who don’t smoke. If you want to smoke, they have three or four areas you can go out and smoke. There isn’t a lot of VP, but when you do win, there is no 1099 in Canada, so
all money is tax free. To be honest, about 5 years ago when I first started going I did pretty good. But the last two years I went 5 times, and it wasn’t good at all. I spent most of my time across the Lake.

You do need a passport to get across the border, and that can take some time. I have rented cars in both Canada and Michigan, but it can be time consuming going across. Take the tunnel, it’s usually faster. A limo will pick you up at the airport. I fly into Detroit, about 25 minutes away.

Ask your host to book you a suite in the Augustus Tower (better location) facing the Lake and Detroit, which is a pretty view, especially at night. Since it’s a 7* trip, see if they’ll give you the butler suites. And they have comped all food there for me when I’ve been there on my 7* trip.

Drinks are not comped, not even in the Diamond Lounge. The Diamond Lounge is better than most, with hot food that isn’t just an appetizer in the late afternoon. I was there one time for their Canadian Thanksgiving, and they had turkey, mashed potatoes, stuffing, etc. I’ve had great pasta, salmon, and steak there during their dinner hours.

They get some good
concerts there. Try to find out what’s going on and book your trip around something you want to see. There are a lot of people that come in from Michigan, so it can get crowded, but there are two floors of gaming.

The last time I was there the exchange of money was even. Be sure to show your 7* trip when you exchange money, because they give you a better percentage. If I remember right, I was told it was better money to go thru the ATM, but being 7* I think that might be better or just as good.

Across the Lake are three casinos in Detroit. I like the MGM, but Motor City is pretty good too. There are more VP games over there.

The food is okay. I haven’t been there for a year, but none of them stands out as excellent. Windsor has a good BBQ place (the concierge will tell you), and it’s nice to tour the country for a day. There isn’t a lot to do in Windsor that I have found, but we do take walks.

Have fun.

Hi Tom, Dave (and Jeannie) here. We met briefly at a cruise casino reception a few years ago. We live outside of Detroit so Caesars Windsor is designated as our home casino even though we play more in Vegas. I won’t repeat what the other person said, other than to emphasize their new diamond lounge is the best we have seen anywhere in the country. Seven Stars also have a special menu in there. Contact Rod Lynds who is a great Seven Star level host (and mine the past year or so) (519) 258-7878 Ext 25886. If you can’t get him George Zawany is nice and would take care of you.

Have him make you reservations in advance for Nero’s steak house if you will be there on a weekend or concert night. It is very good. In the past year they have also added a spa so you can use that for some of your $500 trip portfolio. The biggest attraction for us is the lack of smoke (the 3 downtown Detroit casino’s are VERY smoky) and lack of any recording/reporting of jackpots since as a Michigan resident all W2g’s are taxed with no deductions allowed. Most wins no matter how large just print out on your TITO. For some reason a few (like Royal’s) are really large wins still require someone to pay you off in person. It’s business has dropped to about 25% of what it was 10+ years ago before Michigan and now Ohio opened their own casino’s and before Canada passed the no smoking law, so they are not very busy anymore except on show nights. They have also shaken up top management and hosts the past two years, the results of which are yet to be seen.

The best VP would be at the Detroit Greek Town casino across the river in Detroit. There is also a new Hollywood casino in Toledo Ohio about 30 minutes south.

The do have a big concert series (like Cherokee), in fact we are at our second home in Vegas in May and CW is using our last 2013 June expiration trip to fly us back for the Reba concert and then back to Vegas a day or so later. If you are Seven Star, they will have the airport sedan service pick you up at Detroit Metro airport and take you back at the end of your stay.

I am the moderator for the Detroit/ Windsor casinos
Rod is by far and away the best host at CW
If you are 7* they will give you a better exchange rate in the high limit area both when you come and when you leave. Its even better than the bank will give you.
Nothing really playable
The have full pay Pick’em at the $1 and $2 range but you need to play $80 to get 1 TC
Shows are excellent
If I were you I would try to time the visit to the shows. Check the web site to find out who is playing.
Clean, no smoking, safe
Casinos in the Detroit area are not in great neighborhoods.
They are safe once you get in the parrking garages but make sure you know where you are going before you go there.
