I think these Harrah's marketeers are more clever than you think. They
want a mix of 95% unplayable machines for the average Joe Schmo
tourist. The other 5% or so are scattered and mixed up to keep all of
us smarties coming in and looking. They figure you'll eventually play
what's there or will play underfunded and lose on one of their rare
full-pays anyway.

Decent theory, but that's not what's happening. It's more like 99%, and the location never changes. I never see anybody playing them. Nobody from this group is going to play them. The only reason they keep generating chatter on this forum is that 1) members are still getting good mailings, which drags them into the casino, and 2) I like their gym.

You do find an occasional good machine in the Forum Casino far away
from the Palace high limit area. I'll be there in two weeks and will
try to be more diligent about posting "where".

Like it really matters - they'll move or downgrade it anyway soon
enough.

Your second point about good mailings is pretty much the whole
Harrahs strategy - give away lots of free rooms and abysmal
tournament prizes, then you're on your own. Any of you will get more
mail from Harrahs than the MGMs, Stations and indies combined.

To test the theory that Harrahs has some of the worst food in the
industry I flew up to Reno and stayed in one of their mediocre rooms.
I had their breakfast buffet the next morning. The verdict? I would
rather have eaten cold cereal at home than that food for free.

First time in history I've seen anybody mess up breakfast. Very hard
to do that.

From the casino's profit point of view, they DON'T want players who
play at an advantage, and they DON'T want players who take up seats
which would otherwise be filled with a player who'd lose more.
Everybody else, they DO want.

Underfunded isn't the issue. They want your business, or they don't,
but there's no case where the casino wants your business and would
prefer you to be underfunded.

Very well put, Stuart.
