Sorry, I was being too concise. I was talking about FREE slot tournaments, included in free room offers. I'll try and clarify why we (by we, I mean, nearly every AP local in Vegas) played there. The free room offers from Caesars used to be extraordinary and frequent and very lucrative. For me, typically, they would include $300 cash, or $800 free shopping spree, or free slot tournaments worth about $400 in equity. On top of this, was local's mailings worth $75. Plus, free gym and pool access. Plus, free snacks in the Diamond Lounge. And I could earn these playing 99.7% (NSUD or MS JoB), 99.8% (STP JoB) games. As most of the value was in the mailings and Diamond Club status, calculating the exact total EV was difficult, but I made it at around 103% at my level of play. Hence the popularity.
All moot, as the good games are gone, and the mailings have gone to hell. But, it was good while it lasted.

Every casino has slot tournaments - the equity in the MGM MIRAGE
ones are much higher bigger pools and fewer people - now you have to
play more to get on those list, but some of their places like NY-NY
and Monte Carlo are easy.If you don't care what you are playing just to get free stuff, you
should play at Stations - you can use your points for airfare and
for cruises
