Button Bangers are not cool!

I was at a downdown casino this afternoon and experienced
something more irritating than cigarrette smoke. A gentleman playing
next to me, lets just say he looked in his 50's and wore a fanny
pack, was banging away on his full pay game like there was no
tommarrow! I loathe this type of vp behavior for two reasons: its
annoying and I hate seeing buttons on games most of us enjoy take
such a beating. To top it off, one could tell when he was in a dry
spell cause the pounding resonated louder and louder. A long run of
being dealt and/or drawing garbage cards is certainly frustraing but
thats video poker. Hammering the buttons till your fingers go numb
is not going to scare the machine into dealing you a Royal! Im not
knocking the folks who play fast. I understand fast play inherintly
generates more noise but its nowhere near as irritaing as the button
bangers. In fact most pros/semi pros I've observed playing fast are
actually quite gracful in my opinion. I just wish those who abuse
buttons would please relax and try easing up a bit. The machines are
designed to take a nominal amount of ware and tear, but keep in mind
how long it takes a sticky button on the machine you like playing to
get repaired!

I agree with you. What is it that when a machine is not paying out
people think banging on the glass, buttons and machine is going to
make it better. It is hard to concentrate when someone is doing
that in your area.

There is a regular who plays in the Venetian high limit room
(who may even be a member of this Group!) who pounds the
buttons repeatedly over and over (selecting and unselecting
cards) before EVERY hand!

It appears to be some kind of good luck ritual and he slaps
the buttons in some sort of pattern, which he thinks will
cause the cards to be dealt in his favor.

It is very amusing to watch him - when he is at a distance.

But, it can be very annoying when he is sitting at the
machine next to you.

Just want to add that button banging is not really a side effect of fast play. In fact it's a hindrance to fast play. Generally, the only time fast players might "bang" is when they tap the deal button, slot tournament style to initiate the next deal asap. But this can be done without banging, in fact one doesn't even have to raise his finger(s) off the button.
