Buffalo Bills

Obituary.

There was a time, not long ago, when Buffalo Bill's in Primm was a closely
guarded secret. Not too many Vegas locals were willing to make the drive,
and a few of us who were regulars there kept our comings and goings to
ourselves.

The place was a haven for full pay vp. Everywhere you looked there were
full pay DW, DB, JB. And the points policy was the best around. You could
easily earn a free night or two on each trip. You could eat for nothing,
and sometimes even catch a comp limo into town for a show.

Then things started going wrong. Three years ago the great machines began
to slowly disappear. Three would be gone on one trip, three or four more
the next, all of them replaced with short pay multi-games. And the crowds
began to dwindle. BB's became a quick stop on the way home instead of a
destination casino.

It all came to an official ending yesterday. We pulled in, burned our
remaining points on a big lunch, including donuts and drinks to go, and
headed for home following an enjoyable and slightly profitable stay at
Luxor. And so ends a run that began a week after BB's opened, ran through
the Bill Paulos years, my magazine articles on he and the properties he ran
for Gary Primm, and the ensuing MGM purchase. We had many wonderful times
there, but all things must end.
